Oakland A’s at Seattle Mariners MLB Lines Analysis

The AL West has suddenly turned into a pretty exciting race, with Houston, Texas, and the LA Angels all vying for top spot. The Oakland A’s and the Seattle Mariners are totally out of it at this point, but are engaged in a little battle of their own, which is to avoid being last. These two teams will finish up a 3-game MLB betting series in Seattle on Wednesday night.

No-one is breaking out the champagne just yet, but the Oakland A’s (55-71) are on a bit of a hot streak at the moment. They have won back to back games, including the first one in this series, and are 4-2 in their last 6. That’s a pretty modest level of success, but when you have had a season this forgettable, you tend to focus on any positives, no matter how small. Two of the wins during that stretch came against the LA Dodgers, which is something to get pretty excited about, considering that the big-spending Dodgers are at the top of the NL West. Right now, though, the focus is on beating the Mariners and perhaps getting out of the basement. After the win on Monday, Oakland is now 2.5 games back of Seattle. Chris Bassitt (1-5, 2.48 ERA) has pitched a whole lot better than his win/loss record suggests. He will have the chance to get another “W” on the board when he starts on Wednesday.

Last week was another disastrous one for the Seattle Mariners (57-68), as they went 2-4 through their 6 games. While this is a team that has become accustomed to losing this season, the manner in which they lost those games is what is so troubling. Once again, the bullpen had complete meltdown issues, as the Mariners gave up 47 runs during that 6-game stretch. It’s absolutely impossible to win on a regular basis when giving up that many runs, and it looks as though they are headed down the same path again this week. They put 5 runs on the board in the opening game of this series versus Oakland, but then surrendered 11 straight runs to eventually go down 11-5. Felix Hernandez (14-8, 3.74 ERA) is coming into this one on a 2-game losing skid, and has given up 14 earned runs over those 2 starts.

The Oakland A’s last put together a 3-game win streak at the start of this month, and I think they could well be looking at 4 in a row when Wednesday rolls around. I like them to get the win here.
