Oakland A’s vs New York Yankees MLB Odds Report

We are now in the final week of the first half of the baseball season, and there are some teams that feel a whole better about where they are than others. The New York Yankees have to be loving the fact that they are back on top in the AL East, while the Oakland A’s must be starting to believe that their season is done as they sit buried in the cellar in the West. These two teams will hook up for a 3-game series in New York starting on Tuesday, with Oakland as favorites in the sports betting odds.

Taking a Look at the Oakland A’s vs New York Yankees MLB Odds Report & TV Info

Time: Tuesday, 7:05 p.m. ET
Venue: Yankee Stadium, New York
National TV: none
Opening MLB Odds: A’s -118, Yankees +108 (8)

The New York Yankees (44-38) are coming off a nice series win versus the Tampa Bay Rays, and now have a little cushion at the top of the division. Little is the operative word here, as there is still just 2 games separating first from fourth. The Yankees needed this series win, as they had been stumbling a bit of late. The fact that it came against a division rival was just the icing on the cake. Once they finish up with the A;s, New York will close out the first half of the season with a series against the Red Sox. Boston looked to be out of things, but have put together a solid run in the past week or so. These are a pair of series that the Yankees should be able to win, but this division has proven to be anything but predictable this season. It will be Nathan Eovaldi (8-2, 4.52 ERA) who will get the start on Tuesday in search of his 4th straight win.

You have to give a little bit of credit to the Oakland A’s (38-47), as they continue to battle despite looking totally out of the race in the AL West. It would have been very easy for them to sink into oblivion after getting swept by the Kansas City Royals, bit instead, they went out and put together a series win against the Colorado Rockies followed by a split with the Seattle Mariners. As has been the case all year, Scott Kazmir was once again on fire against the Mariners, as he once again managed to hold the opposition scoreless. The rest of the team has not really been following in Kazmir’s footsteps, and you have to wonder if big changes are afoot come trade deadline. Sonny Gray (9-3, 2.09 ERA) will take to the mound on Tuesday in hopes of hitting 10 wins before the end of the first half.

Key Betting Trends

  • Oakland is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Oakland’s last 5 games
  • The total has gone UNDER in 5 of NY Yankees’ last 6 games
  • NY Yankees is 14-4 SU in its last 18 games at home
  • The total has gone OVER in 8 of NY Yankees’ last 9 games at home

My Betting Prediction

It was Sonny Gray who came away with the win the last time he faced the Yankees. The A’s actually took 3 of 4 from New York in that series, but I expect things to be a little tougher on the road. That said, Gray is pitching well right now, and might do enough to get the A’s a win.
