MLB Odds & Expert Prediction for Yankees vs. Astros
Making it to the postseason in the MLB is a major accomplishment, especially when you consider that there are not many playoff slots available. The teams who are the most consistent through the course of a 162-game season are the ones who make it in, but the question then becomes whether they can carry that success over into the new season. The Houston Astros have the toughest task ahead of them this year, as they are coming into the new season as the defending World Series champions and favorites at the MLB odds to win it all, again. So far, they have been very good but will get perhaps their toughest test of the season in a homestand against the New York Yankees.
Last season proved to be a return to form for the Yankees, as they made it to the postseason, but they too have some pressure to live up to, as they went all out in the offseason to spend big money to bring in some very talented guys, with the likes of Giancarlo Stanton part of their shopping list. These are two very good teams, but just one can be the MLB betting favorite, and playing at home has to be the Astros. Nevertheless, expect a competitive series here.

Why bet on the New York Yankees?
The season did not start the way the Yankees wanted it to, with Giancarlo Stanton even having to listen to the boo birds give him the goods after a slow start. Things are turning around, though, with the Yankees having a 9-game winning streak snapped with a loss to the Astros in the opening game of this series. It has been Didi Gregorius who has been the offensive juggernaut for the Yankees this season, cranking out 10 HR and 30 RBI.
Aaron Judge is certainly not suffering through a sophomore slump, so the Yankees will be fine until Stanton comes around, which he almost certainly will. The Yankees are top 10 in most of the major pitching stats, too, and that has helped them get to 18-10 on the season, although still 3 games back of the Red Sox. The Yankees will send Jordan Montgomery (2-0, 3.76 ERA) to the mound for this one.
Why bet on the Houston Astros?
There is always some concern that the defending World Series champions will experience a little bit of a hangover the season after their big win, but that has not been the case with the Astros in the early going. They have started the year with a 20-10 record, and are 7-3 in their last 10 games. There is a lot to like about this team, but it has been the pitching staff that has truly excelled this year, with the Astros #1 in just about every pitching category that you care to mention.
This is not to suggest that this team cannot score, though, because they certainly can, which may explain why they already have a +67 run differential in the early going. Tuesday night will see the Astros send veteran Justin Verlander (4-0, 1.36 ERA) to the mound.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
Verlander has been money this season, with the Astros winning 5 of the 6 games that he has started. Game 1 of this series was a low-scoring 2-1 win for the Astros, and we may see more of the same here, so be sure to back the Astros MLB odds to win.
