MLB Odds Pick on Miami Marlins at Tampa Bay Rays

The final week can often feel like the longest for those teams who have nothing left to play for. Even with that feeling in place, players are well aware that they may be playing for a job, which is why maximum effort is still expected. The Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays are both in that position, and they will try to end their seasons on a bit of a high note when they hook up in Tampa on Wednesday night where the Rays are favorites on the MLB betting lines to win the match.

The Tampa Bay Rays (75-81) are seeing their year come to an end with a real whimper. They have had a pretty awful second half of the season, and now find themselves sitting at the bottom of the AL East. There is plenty of blame to go around for their performance this year, but a lot of it has to be levelled at an offense that simply hasn’t delivered the goods. The Rays have the best defensive record in the AL East, but their 610 runs is not only the worst in the division, it is also the second worst in the AL, behind only the Chicago White Sox. If you put a positive spin on things, you can say that they are close, and that a couple of big bats added to the line-up in the offseason may make it possible for them to challenge again next year. Drew Smyly (4-2, 3.26 ERA) will be looking to make it 3 straight wins with this start.

You have to give some real credit to this Miami Marlins (69-87) team, as they have continued to battle hard despite being out of contention for as long as anyone can remember. Keep in mind that they have been missing their best hitter, Giancarlo Stanton, since the end of June, and that the best parts of their starting rotation were all dealt away at the trade deadline. All of that makes their current 5-game winning streak seem all the more impressive, even if those wins did come against the Phillies and the Braves. It has been a bleak year, but it has also featured some great performances, such as pitcher Jose Fernandez becoming the first major league pitcher to win his first 17 career starts at home. It will be Jarred Cosart (2-4, 4.15 ERA) who will be on the mound for the Marlins in this one.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

A disappointing season for both of these teams, but it is the Marlins who seem more committed to a strong finish. That is why I like them to get the win here.
