MLB Odds Preview on Toronto Blue Jays at Tampa Bay Rays

Written by on October 2, 2015

The Toronto Blue Jays finally clinched the AL East on Wednesday night, leaving the New York Yankees and their sports betting fans having to play in the Wild Card game. While that part of the division has been decided, the fight to avoid last place looks as though it is going to go down to the wire. The Baltimore Orioles are tied for worst with the Tampa Bay Rays, and will try to avoid that spot when they head to New York to face the Yankees on Friday.

Date/Time: Friday, October 02, 2015 7:10 PM ET Venue: Tropicana Field Opening Line: Toronto -107, Tampa Bay +110 The Orioles (77-81) never really looked as though they would finish last, but a poor run of form coming down the stretch has hurt them. They did manage to beat the Blue Jays in the second half of a doubleheader on Wednesday, bringing a 5-game losing skid to an end in the process. One of the big positives in that win was the 8 runs that the Orioles scored. In the 5 losses prior to that victory, the offense had only managed to drive home 5 runs. They were in fact totally shut out in a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Red Sox during that stretch, so there had to be a sense of relief in the club house once the win over the Jays was in the books. There is still some work to do to avoid the cellar, though, and the hope may be that the Yankees might rest some guys before the Wild Card game next week. Wei-Yin Chen (10-8, 3.35 ERA) will start for the Orioles. To say that the week so far has been a disappointment for the Yankees (86-72) is perhaps putting things a little mildly. They have lost the first 3 games of the series to the Boston Red Sox, as well as seeing the division title head north of the border. The Yankees have gained a home game when the postseason begins by clinching one of the AL Wild Card race spots yesterday. It’s fair to say that the Yankees are not finishing the season in style, as they are just 4-6 in their last 10 games. They do have an older squad, though, which is why it will not be a huge surprise to see some of those guys get a day or two off over the weekend. Adam Warren (7-7. 3.37 ERA) will be on the mound for the Yankees.

This is a tough one to call without knowing what the Yankees will do with their line-up. It is that which makes me think that the Orioles might be able to eke out the win here.
