Online MLB Betting Pick on Pittsburgh Pirates vs Miami Marlins

There is still plenty of time left in the season for things to go wrong for a couple of teams, but the likelihood of that happening in the National League looks pretty slim. There are still some division races to be decided, but it really does look as though the Wild Card has been set. One team that looks like a total online sports betting lock to be in the postseason is the Pittsburgh Pirates, and they will try to cement that spot when they head to Miami for a 4-game series, the second game of which is set for Tuesday night.

A Look at the Online MLB Betting Pick on Pittsburgh Pirates vs Miami Marlins

Venue: Marlins Park
Opening Line: Pittsburgh -142

While it looked as though the Pirates (74-48) were destined to get into the postseason via the Wild Card, they are making things very interesting in the NL West. Pittsburgh posted an impressive 5-2 record last week, and were able to shave a game and a half off the lead held by the St. Louis Cardinals. The division lead is now down to 3.5 games, and the Pirates can start to smell blood in the water.

Series wins against the Diamondbacks and the Giants last week hurt the playoff chances of both those teams, which is a sure sign that the Pirates are hitting playoff form right now. Sure, a team can peak too early, but the Pirates have been incredibly consistent throughout the second half, and are starting to look like a legitimate World Series contender. Charlie Morton (8-4, 4.06 ERA) will start for the Pirates, who have won each of the last 5 games he has started.

The Marlins (50-74) went through a stretch of games in the middle of the month where their batters were hitting everything in sight. Just as quickly as the bats went hot, they went stunningly cold again. The Marlins lost the final 3 games of their series versus the Philadelphia Phillies and only managed to put up a total of 3 runs in those defeats. They have what looks to be a tough week ahead, as they follow this 4-game series with the Pirates with 3 on the road against a very desperate Washington Nationals ball club. The Marlins pitching staff has been pretty woeful through the second half, and that could be a problem against a hard hitting Pirates team. Brad Hand (3-3, 4.46 ERA) will try to replicate the great effort he put in during his last start.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

Given how cold the bats have gone in Miami, Pittsburgh may not have to flash a lot of power to get the win. That they have power in spades means that this game could be very lopsided.
