Online MLB Pick on St. Louis Cardinals at Milwaukee Brewers

Just a few short weeks ago, there were a couple of division leads that looked as though they would be impossible to break for MLB Betting fans. Things have changed, though, and the Kansas City Royals have seen their lead shaved to 9 games, which still pretty much makes them impossible to catch. Not so safe is the lead that the St. Louis Cardinals hold right now, and they will try to maintain it when they take a trip to Milwaukee to face the Brewers on Wednesday night.

It really did look as though the Cardinals (89-54) were going to cruise to the NL Central title, but a run of poor form, combined with a great run of from by the Pittsburgh Pirates, has seen the lead slashed to just 2.5 games. The Cardinals have now lost 3 straight series, during which they posted a record of just 3-7. It is without a doubt their worst run of form of the season, and is coming at a time when they would rather be winning the division and resting some guys.

Given how many holes St. Louis had had to plug in their line-up this season, there is a sense of inevitability about this losing skid. They should be good enough to break out of it, though, and finally have Matt Adams off the DL to help make it happen. Jaime Garcia (8-5, 2.33 ERA) had a 7-game unbeaten streak broken in his last start.

The Milwaukee Brewers (62-81) saw a pretty good run of form come to a bit of a crashing halt last week. They started out the week by dropping 2 of 3 to Miami, and then followed that up by losing 3 of 4 to the surging Pittsburgh Pirates. The Brewers continued to score runs, but the pitching went off the rails a little, especially against the Pirates, who were able to hammer home 27 runs over the 4 game series.

This will be another tough series for a Milwaukee team that is very much in transition at the moment, but it also serves as another good opportunity for them to see exactly where they rank against the class teams of the league, and just how much work needs to be done in the offseason. Wily Peralta (5-8, 4.14 ERA) will start for the Brewers on Wednesday.

This series might well serve as a good opportunity for the Cardinals to start feeling good about themselves by picking up a few wins. Not sure if that’s what will happen, but I certainly like their chances in this one.
