If you need an excuse to skip work for a much needed break in the middle of the week, the Baltimore Orioles and the Chicago White Sox have the cure. They will play a doubleheader on Thursday that are make-up games from earlier in the season when the city of Baltimore was basically on lockdown. Both teams are in a situation where they really need wins. Who will the MLB betting lines favor? Let’s find out now in this exclusive game preview.

The Baltimore Orioles (20-23) are really not in as bad a shape as their record might suggest, simply because they are playing in a division where no team has really taken the bull by the horns. They find themselves just 2.5 games out of first place at the moment, and the way things are going in the AL East, a winning streak of 3 or 4 games might be enough to totally wipe out that lead. The O’s don’t really seem capable of putting together such a streak, though, if their record to this point of the season is anything to go by. They are consistently playing .500 ball, which is not the way to the top of a division that is there for the taking. Game 1 of the doubleheader will see Baltimore send Mike Wright (1-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound. Wright has yet to give up a run in 14 innings of ball this season.

There is no other way to put this. The Chicago White Sox (19-24) are a team in free fall right now. While they have a record similar to that of the Orioles, they do not have the luxury of playing in a division where such a record will get you by. They have now lost 4 in a row, and 7 of their last 8, and they have not been very competitive through that stretch. Runs have looked impossible to come by for the White Sox, and even when they managed 9 versus the Blue Jays, they gave up 10 to take the loss. They are in real danger of being swept by Toronto before making the trip to Baltimore for this important double header. Chris Sale (3-2, 4.21 ERA) will take to the mound for the White Sox in Game 1. He has gone deep in each of his last 3 starts, and really deserved better than his 1-1 record through that run.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

This has the makings of being a pretty good pitching duel, but given how cold the bats have been in Chicago, you have to give the nod to Wright and the Orioles in this one.
