The 162-game MLB betting season is a long slow grind that only the best manage to survive en route to the postseason. During the year, there will be teams that experience ups and downs, and there will be a few that fly under the radar long enough to make a serious push for a playoff place at the end. The Arizona Diamondbacks are a team that is going largely unnoticed right now, but they are making a move. They will travel to San Diego to face the Padres in an important 3-game series that begins on Friday.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Dodgers MLB Betting Preview
Time: 10:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Petco Park, San Diego
National TV: None
Opening line: Padres -143, Diamondbacks +133 (7)
The Arizona Diamondbacks (35-36) have been flirting with .500 almost since the opening day of the season, and you get the sense that crossing that hurdle might just be the inspiration they need to make a move. While they are just 6-4 in their last 10, they have benefitted from a division that is struggling as a whole. The Dodgers and Giants have been playing sub-par ball recently, and that has allowed the D-Backs to slip into third place, just 4 games out of the lead. The made that move at the expense of the team they will be playing this weekend, as the Padres are suddenly sinking like a stone. Arizona has a chance to get to .500 with a win over the Rockies on Wednesday, after which they will hope to repeat the series win they had over the Padres last weekend. Robbie Ray (2-2, 1.78 ERA) will get the ball for Arizona on Friday. Ray took the loss in his last start, which ironically came against these same Padres.
The main reason that San Diego Padres (35-39) has fallen so far is because they have been dropping far too many games to division opponents. Since mid-June, they have lost series to the Dodgers, and the Diamondbacks, and are now in danger of losing another to the Giants if they fail to get the win on Thursday afternoon. You simply cannot have that sort of record against division foes and hope to stay in contention. The Padres are now 5.5 games out of first in the West, and can’t really claim to be excited about heading home for this series, as they are 3-games under .500 on home field. They will be looking to Tyson Ross (4-7, 3.61 ERA) for some help on Friday. He was the winner of record in his last start, which came against the Diamondbacks last weekend.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets
This is the same pitching match-up that we got when the Padres rolled the D-Backs 8-1 last weekend. I’m not sure that we are going to get the same result this time around, though, as I like Arizona to come away with the win.
