Seattle Mariners at Oakland A’s Expert MLB Betting Pick
It’s still too early in the season to suggest that any but the very worst teams in the league are totally out of the playoff picture. That said, there is a bunch of teams who need to get things going pretty soon if they hope to be a factor in the second half of the season. Two of those teams, the Seattle Mariners and Oakland A’s, reside in the AL West, and they will meet for a 4-game series in Seattle starting on Thursday night. Let’s take a look at their MLB odds.

The Mariners (35-42) are 9.5 games out of first and doing very little to show that they might be able to mount a series challenge. They have been playing .500 ball the past couple of weeks, and seem to follow a good series with a bad one. They get an important series win over the Astros recently, which they then follow up with back to back series losses to the Royals and the Angels. They cannot simply keep treading water if they hope to get back in this thing. They had into Wednesday with a chance to sweep the Padres in a 2-game series, and will hope that a win there can serve as momentum heading into this one. Roenis Elias (4-5, 4.25 ERA) will start for the Mariners on Thursday. He is on a win one, lose one run right now, which should mean a win here of the trend continues.
It looked for just a moment last week as though the Oakland A’s (35-45) might just be gearing up for a bid to get back into the division race. They took 2 of 3 from the Angels, and then went on to sweep the Texas Rangers. The excitement was quickly washed away, though, as they were swept by the Royals. They have split their current series with the Rockies, and need a win against them on Wednesday night if they hope to feel a little better about their chances in this important upcoming series. Time really is beginning to run out for Oakland, as they are now 11.5 games off the pace, with a series loss here likely to send them even further back. Scott Kazmir (4-5, 2.79 ERA) will take to the mound for the A’s on Thursday. Kazmir was a little unfortunate to take the loss in his last start, as he pitched 7 pretty solid innings against the Royals.
- Hisashi Iwakuma P 15-Day DL
- James Paxton P 15-Day DL
- Coco Crisp OF 60-Day DL
- Sean Doolittle P 60-Day DL
- Tyler Ladendorf 2B 60-Day DL
- Jarrod Parker P 15-Day DL
- Taylor Thompson P 60-Day DL
- Pat Venditte P 15-Day DL
The Mariners have taken 5 of 6 games from the A’s this season, and they could be in trouble again in this series. Having Kazmir on the mound is probably their best shot at a win, but I still think they fall a little short in this one.
