Seattle Marlins vs San Diego Padres Preview & MLB Lines

There are some very definite signs that a season is over for a team, with multiple losing streaks and an ever expanding disabled list among the most common. Some teams will make tweaks and changes to turn things around, while others seem resigned to their fate. A pair of teams that fall into those categories are the San Diego Padres and the Miami Marlins, and they will meet for a 4-game series in Miami, with the second game in that series going on Friday night. The Padres head into the game as favorites on the MLB betting oods.

A Look at the Miami Marlins vs San Diego Padres Preview & MLB Lines

Time: Friday, 10:10 p.m. ET
Venue: Petco Park, San Diego
National TV: none
Opening MLB Odds: Padres -140, Marlins +130 (6.5)

At 9.5 games back in the NL West, the Padres (44-51) will tell you that there is still time to right the ship and get back into contention. They are certainly saying and doing all the right things, as they mix up their line-up in search of better results. The bad news is that for every step they take forward, they seem to take 2 back. They got the second half off to a positive start with a pair of wind over the Rockies, followed by a win over their division rivals, the San Francisco Giants. This seemed like real progress until the Giants turned around and won the next 2 games. That is pretty much how the season has gone for San Diego right from the start. Andrew Cashner (3-10, 4.10 ERA) will start for the Padres on Friday as he tried to avoid back to back losses.

The Marlins (40-55) reached the point of no return quite some time ago, and they are now starting to see the injuries pile up, which is a little like rubbing salt in the wounds. You know that your team has no hope when they are swept by the Phillies, which is what happened to Miami to start the second half. Yes, they did bounce back by taking 2 of 3 from the D-Backs, but that is another team who are headed in the wrong direction at breakneck speeds. All that really remains to be seen this season is which players will be heading out the door once the trade deadline rolls around. Mat Latos would appear to be the most likely candidate to be given a new address at the end of the month. It will be Dan Haren (7-5, 3.46 ERA) who will get the start. Haren was pitching well before the break, but took a heavy defeat in his first game back.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

This has the makings of a game that is likely to produce a lot of runs, and I believe it will be the Padres who are able to score one or two more to get the win.
