The World Series champion always enters the new season with their crown planted firmly on their head, but then have to endure week after week of teams trying to knock it off for the stress of their MLB betting fans. The San Francisco Giants may still be wearing theirs, but it is looking decidedly beaten and wobbly right now. The Giants will head to Colorado on Thursday to begin a 4-game series with the Rockies.

That World Series Crown is not fitting very well at the moment, as the Giants (69-63) are in danger of falling into a hole that they might not be able to dig themselves out of. They will go into the Wednesday night game with the Dodgers trying to avoid a sweep, as well as a losing streak of 5 games. A loss would see them fall 6.5 games behind the Dodgers, which would be very difficult to make up given the dwindling number of games on the schedule. As has been the case for a while now, it is the bats that have let the Giants down in this series. If there is a bright side to all of this, it’s that they have finally ended a horrendous schedule that saw them play a bunch of contenders.

Their final few weeks bring lesser opponents, as well as one more series with the Dodgers. It isn’t over yet fir the Giants, but the fat lady is starting to warm up her vocal chords. Ryan Vogelsong (9-10, 4.19 ERA) will be trying to snap a 2-game losing streak when he takes to the mound on Thursday.

Tuesday proved to be a bit of a rough day at the office for the Colorado Rockies (53-78), as they dropped both games in their doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This series may well have been their chance to get any real joy for the remainder of the season, as their upcoming schedule is one that is likely to include a fair number of losses.

The end of the season really can’t come soon enough for this group, and they are going to be looking forward to another offseason where decisions have to be made about the direction this team is headed. Chris Rusin (4-7, 4.94 ERA) will come into this one on a 2-game losing skid.
