St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs MLB Lines Report
Barring a major miracle, the playoff teams in the National League have pretty much been decided. All 5 of the teams who are currently in are great in different ways, which mean we have some killer match-ups to look forward to. We may get a sneak preview of one of those when the St. Louis Cardinals head to Chicago to take on the upstarts Cubs, with the first game of the series set for Friday where the Cubs are slight favorites on MLB odds.

The Cardinals (91-54) appear to have broken out of a slump that allowed the Pittsburgh Pirates to get a little too close for comfort in the NL Central. They have now reeled off 3 straight wins, and will have a good opportunity to make it 4 when they close out a series against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night. While their poor run of form was sure to be a little unsettling to their fans, it never really felt as though it was something that was going to continue. The Cardinals have not achieved their great season record by being prone to extended losing streaks, so it’s easy to chalk this one off as just a small bump in the road. The division lead is now back up to a much healthier 4 games, and running them down now looks like a pretty impossible task for the Pirates. Lance Lynn (11-10, 3.17 EA) will start for the Cardinals on Friday.
The Chicago Cubs (84-61) have a genuine opportunity to come into this series on a real high, as they have the opportunity to take 3 of 4 from the Pirates when they meet on Thursday afternoon. Much has been made about the age of this team, and how a lack of experience might well be what does them in. The fact of the matter is that the Cubs have shown a high level of maturity all year long, and beating teams that they may well have to face in the postseason is a sure sign that they are ready for the challenge ahead. The Cubs will actually have one more series against the Pirates in the regular season, and have the opportunity to deal them a real psychological blow, as that is who they look like they will face in the Wild Card game. Dan Haren (9-9, 3.87 ERA) has been a little inconsistent of late, but is due for another good outing.
