Just a couple of weeks ago, a series between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox would not have been something to get particularly excited about. Times have changed, though, as it appears both of those teams have turned things around in a big way. The AL Central has become a lot more interesting now, and it may be even more so by the time these two finish their 3-game series, which is set to begin on Friday in Chicago with the home team listed as favorites on MLB lines.

There were a lot of people who believed that the Chicago White Sox (18-19) could make some noise this season, but there was also the belief that it might take some time for them to gel. They had a busy offseason, and it’s usually difficult for a lot of new players to come together in a short space of time. It looks as though that is now beginning to happen, as the Sox are now starting to put things together. They had put together an impressive 6-game win streak, but have now lost their last two against the Cleveland Indians. They will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday before welcoming in the Minnesota Twins. Jeff Samardzija (3-2, 4.58 ERA) will get the start for the White Sox on Friday. Samardzija went 8 innings in his last start, giving up 3 runs and earning the win.

The Minnesota Twins (23-17) would be having a spectacular start to the season if they did not have to face the Detroit Tigers. They have gone just 3-7 against the Tigers so far this season, whilst going 20-10 against all other teams. The good news is that they don’t have to face Detroit again until July, so they now have an opportunity to really start to build something special, whilst closing the gap on the leaders in their division. They are also going to have to improve on their road record, as they are just 9-11 on the season. Once they get this series with the White Sox out of the way, they have a 6-game home stand to look forward to. Phil Hughes (3-4, 4.76 ERA) will take to the hill for Minnesota as he looks to win his 4th straight game.

The Twins always seem to find a way to score a lot of runs whenever Phil Hughes takes to the mound. If they can continue that trend, I see no reason why they can’t make a winning start to this series.
