Detroit vs Los Angeles MLB Betting Lines

While it’s beginning to look as though the Wild Card race in the National League is close to being over, the same cannot be said in the American League. The Wild Card spots are still very much up for grabs, and the LA Angels and Detroit Tigers still believe that they can lay claim to one of those spots. These two will meet for 3 games in Detroit starting on Tuesday, with a series win sure to help the cause for both of them and MLB betting fans.

Detroit Tigers vs Los Angeles Angels MLB Betting Lines

Date/Time: August 25, 7:08 PM ET
Venue: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
Radio: 97.1 The Ticket
Opening Line: Detroit +102, LA Angels -112

The Angels (63-61) are in the better shape of these two teams in terms of their standings, but they are also in a bit of a freefall at the moment. They relinquished the final Wild Card spot over the weekend after being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays, and they have now slipped to third in the division after being passed by the surging Texas Rangers. The final defeat in the Toronto series led to a closed door meeting that was probably not very pleasant to be a part of. It was something that was a long time coming, though, as the Angels are just 3-7 in their last 10 games.

The rot started to set in long before that, though, and it really is beginning to look as though this team are going to continue sliding out of playoff contention. Jered Weaver (5-9, 4.34 ERA) has been one of the few bright spots on this team recently, having been excellent in each of his last 3 starts.

The Detroit Tigers (59-64) are just 5 games out of the final Wild Card spot, but they have a bit of a mountain to climb when you see just how many teams they would have to pass in order to get there. The fact that they had to send Anibal Sanchez and Daniel Norris to the DL adds to the problem, as they are now going to have to try and overhaul that deficit without two of their best starting pitchers. The Tigers closed out their week by losing 3 straight to the Texas Rangers, but will have the opportunity to bounce back when they face the Cincinnati Reds in a make-up game on Monday night.

With Toronto and Kansas City to come right after this series, now is the time when the Tigers need to get back to winning ways. Alfredo Simon (11-7, 4.52 ERA) will start for Detroit, who tend to play well when he is on the mound.

Key Betting Trends:

  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games
  • Detroit is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games on the road
  • LA Angels is 4-9 SU in its last 13 games

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

This is a must win series for both teams, but I am concerned about the ability of the Angels to break out of this slump. I think their rough ride continues with another loss here.
