There are just a few weeks left to play in the regular season, and there are a number of teams still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Most of their MLB betting fans are going to have their hearts broken coming down the stretch, so expect to see them all raise their level of play during that time. The Texas Rangers are one of the teams making a move, and they will try to build on their solid form when they head to Detroit to play the Tigers in a 4-game series starting on Thursday.

You have to give sine credit to this Rangers (60-58) team, as they have fought their way back into the playoff picture after looking down and out. This is a group that started the second half 5 games under .500 and seemingly out of it. They made a few moves at the trade deadline that really seemed to shake things up, and they have gone 10-6 since swinging those deals. They are still a longshot for the division title, sitting 4 games back, but are very much in the Wild Card picture.

They are a game and a half back of that final spot, but they will need to overhaul the LA Angels and Baltimore Orioles in order to get it. The Rangers will get to play both of those teams in the next couple of weeks, so they have a shot at controlling their own destiny. Martin Perez (1-2, 5.39 ERA) will try to make it 4 straight games unbeaten when he starts on Thursday.

The Detroit Tigers (57-61) may be having a season to forget, but they certainly have been fun to watch lately, that is assuming that you are not a fan of pitcher’s duels. Their 3-game series against Houston produced a total of 23 runs, and they followed that up by taking the first game against the Chicago Cubs by a score of 10-8. As exciting as all of that is, it somewhat highlights the defensive woes that the Tigers have had to face for most of the year.

Yes, this is a team that can score runs, but it often ends up being for naught when the pitching staff don’t hold up their end of the bargain. Detroit still holds on to a slim hope of making the playoffs, but at 4.5 games back, and with a bunch of teams ahead of them, it doesn’t look good. Alfredo Simon (10-7, 4.84 ERA) will get the start for Detroit.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

This could very well be a high scoring series, which I think plays into the favor of the Texas Rangers. I like them to edge the win here in a 6-5 or 7-6 type game.
