A lot of things have to go right in the final few weeks of the MLB betting season for those teams hoping to clinch a playoff spot. Not only do they have to win more often than not, they have to hope that the other teams in the hunt have some slip-ups along the way. That is exactly the scenario that the Texas Rangers are in right now, and they will hope to continue doing their part when they play the third of 4 games in Seattle on Wednesday.

With Yu Darvish out for the year following Tommy John surgery, and Derek Holland spending a good chunk of time on the DL, it would not have been a surprise to see the Texas Rangers (72-64) struggle somewhat this year. It was an up and down season for them through the first half, but the return of Holland and the acquisition of Cole Hamels at the trade deadline seemed to turn things around.

The Rangers hold the final spot in the AL Wild Card, and have also pulled themselves within 2 games of the Houston Astros in the division race. It would be natural for them to look ahead to next week’s series with the Astros, but doing so could see them lose focus on the job at hand. That does not seem to have happened, though, as they bounced back from a losing series against the Angels to win the opening game in this one. Martin Perez (2-4, 5.07 ERA) will get the start for the Rangers.

It is amazing how often a team responds positively when a manager or GM is removed from their duties. It is almost as if the players suddenly realize that their jobs might also be on the line. The Mariners (66-72) have certainly seen their level of play improve since GM Jack Zduriencik was removed from his office. Seattle has posted a 9-4 record over the past 2 weeks, and were on a 5-game win streak before the Rangers ended it on Monday. With a new GM coming to the team, we can expect to see a lot of changes in the offseason. What happens over the next 3 weeks may determine who will still be in a Mariners uniform when the dust settles. The Mariners have not yet decided who will get the start on Wednesday.

As well as Seattle has been playing of late, they are up against a Rangers team that can suddenly smell a division title. I like Texas to pick up another win in this one.
