If you are a playoff bound team, this is the part of the season where you might just want to get a losing streak out of your system. No team knows the importance of getting on a roll heading into the postseason than the Kansas City Royals, because they did just that last year. They are on a skid right now, and will be looking to break out of it when they head to Detroit on Friday. Find the latest updated MLB Odds here.

Kansas City Royals vs Detroit Tigers MLB Odds Preview

The Royals (85-60) team that we are seeing right now is most definitely not the one we have been used to seeing all season long. The Royals are just 3-9 in their last 12 games, but at least have the cushion of a 10-game division lead to fall back on. It all makes you wonder if that lead is not perhaps part of the problem. The Royals will be in the postseason, and you likely have a group of guys who don’t want to risk getting hurt at this late stage of the season. If that is indeed the case, they all need to snap out of it. You cannot simply turn it off and on in professional sports, especially when heading into the postseason, where you are going to be facing the very best teams that the league has to offer. Johnny Cueto (9-12, 5.43 ERA) is one of the players not pulling his weight. He has lost 5 straight, during which time he has seen his ERA climb by over 3 and a half points.

The Detroit Tigers (67-78) are a team in turmoil, as rumors are swirling about the future of the coaching staff heading into the offseason. That is a tough situation for players to play under, but to their credit, the Tigers are doing all they can to have some sort of impact on the playoff race. They certainly hurt the chances of the Minnesota Twins by taking 2 of 3 from them in their last series. They will be looking for more of the same against the Royals, and while that may not be enough to guarantee Brad Ausmus a job in Detroit next year, it will help the team finish out the final couple of weeks on a positive note. Justin Verlander (3-8, 3.58 ERA) comes into this one having taken back to back losses.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

As much as I don’t think this Tigers team can come close to the talent level of the Royals, it is Johnny Cueto who may end up being the one who evens the playing field. I like his struggles to continue, and the Tigers to win.
