When you get used to seeing a team winning on a regular basis, it becomes all the more noticeable when they start to struggle. Such is the case with the Kansas City Royals, a team that has been dominant all season long, but which is going through a bit of a swoon at the moment. They will try to wake up when they head to Cleveland for a Tuesday night showdown.

It certainly has been an uncharacteristic stretch of games for the Royals (84-58), as they have only managed 4 wins in their last 13 starts. The Royals have lost their past 3 series, and including this 4 games against Cleveland, still have 7 games to go on this road trip, which got off to a losing start in Baltimore. Still, it would have to be a collapse of epic proportions for KC to give up their 10-game lead atop the division, and while that is not likely to happen, they will want to get back to winning ways before the playoffs begin. No team knows the importance of entering the postseason on a positive roll, as that is exactly what this bunch did last year, making it all the way to the World Series. Kris Medlen (3-1, 4.58 ERA) will get the start for the Royals on Tuesday.

We have been talking for a while now about how the American League Wild Card race looked as though it was coming down to just 2 or 3 teams, but the Cleveland Indians (70-71) are making it clear that they want to be part of the equation. They are still 4.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot in the AL, but are slowly chipping away at that lead. They had another good run last week, winning both series that they played against the White Sox and the Tigers. One of the teams that the Indians will have to catch in order to get in is the Minnesota Twins, and they will have 7 games against them in the final 2 weeks of the season. Things are about to get a lot more interesting than we thought, especially if Cleveland can close the gap a little more this week. Josh Tomlin (5-1, 2.85 ERA) has been brilliant since returning from injury, and has won 5 straight starts.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

I always have a hard time betting against a hot pitcher, and that is why I like the Indians in this one. It also helps that the Royals just aren’t playing well right now.
