Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – April 15th Edition

Written by on April 15, 2019

Making predictions in the early part of the baseball season is always tough, although, with each passing week, things do start to get a little easier. We begin to get a better idea of how teams might actually perform over the long haul once we start to get a decent sample size of games to look at.

With each team now about 15 games into the season, that sample is starting to grow to a point where we can make better selections and hopefully make some winning MLB Bets along the way. With that in mind, we are going to gaze into our MBL crystal ball to see if we can pick out a few winners in the coming week, so let’s get right to it.

Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – April 15th Edition

Cincinnati Reds at LA Dodgers – Monday

It’s set to be a big day for the LA Dodgers on Monday, as they are expected to welcome Clayton Kershaw back into the starting rotation after he missed the start of the season through injury. The goal here is probably to get him out of there as quickly as possible, so look for the Dodgers to come out swinging as they try to build him an early lead.

This will be easier said than done, though, as Reds starting pitcher Luis Castillo has been outstanding, posting a 0.92 ERA through 3 starts. We could be in for a low-scoring affair here, but I’m looking for the Dodgers to come out on top.

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees – Tuesday

These are the two teams that we believed would be battling it out for AL East supremacy, but both are struggling in the early going. The Problem for the Red Sox is quite obvious, as it is their pitching staff that is struggling to get rolling, surrendering 98 runs in 16 games.

Chris Sale is having a particularly tough time, starting the season at 0-3 with a 9.00 ERA. He will be on the mound again on Tuesday night facing the big bats of the Yankees, and I think that could spell even more trouble for the Boston Red Sox, who are 3-8 on the road.

Chicago Cubs at Miami Marlins – Wednesday

The Chicago Cubs are another team that is off to a disappointing start to the season, but they do have an opportunity to start setting things right, as they start out the new week with a road trip to face the struggling Miami Marlins. This is a series that you would certainly like them to win, even though they are just 2-7 on the road to start the season.

The Cubs should be your MLB Betting pick against the Marlins.

If I was to pick just one game in this series for the Cubs to be a sure bet, it would be Wednesday with Cole Hamels on the mound. After a rough first start, Hamels has won back to back games to take his season mark to 2-0 with a 3.79 ERA.

Chicago White Sox at Detroit Tigers – Thursday

It’s still very early yet, but the Central Division is a lot more open than we expected it to be. The Tigers had made a positive start, but a 3-game losing skid over the weekend has seen them fall to 8-7 and a game and a half off the pace. They have an opportunity to turn that around with a home series against the Chicago White Sox coming up.

Thursday will see them face Ivan Nova, who is still looking for his first win of the season at 0-2 with a 5.28 ERA. Look for the Tigers to come away with the win in this one.
