Toronto vs Oakland MLB Betting Lines

One of the hardest things for a team to do is strike a perfect balance between offense and defense. This is pretty evident in the AL East, where the Tampa Bay Rays are solid defensively, but can’t score runs, while the Toronto Blue Jays are tearing it up on offense, but are getting killed by their bullpen. Both teams are still in the hunt for the division, and the Jays have a chance of closing the gap at the top when they travel to Oakland for a 3-game series versus the A’s, with the second game set for Wednesday night. If the Blue Jays (47-47) can knock in a couple of runs on Tuesday night, which you have to believe they can, they will become the first team to hit 500 runs on the season, with no other team really anywhere close. The downside for them to this point in the season is that they have not done a great job of slowing their opponents down, but that tide seems to be turning. The Jays are now just 4.5 games out of first, and are sporting a very impressive +89 run differential. They went into the All-Star break on a bit of a cold streak, but opened up the second half by taking 2 of 3 from the Tampa Bay Rays. The Jays didn’t perhaps score as many runs as expected in that series, but in fairness, they were playing a team that has been very solid defensively. Toronto will send Felix Doubront (1-0, 4.50 ERA) to the mound on Wednesday for just his fourth start of the season.

Don’t look now, but there may be some signs of life to be found in Oakland (43-51). Not only have the A’s climbed out of the cellar in the West, they have done so in some considerable style. The closed out the first half of the season with a modest 2-game win streak, and then came back after the break to take 2 of 3 from the Twins. The most impressive part of their performance against Minnesota was the performance of their hitter, with no less than 6 home runs cranked out of the park during the 3-game series. There is still an awful lot of work to be done before respectability can return, as the A’s are still 1o games out of first place. Sonny Gray (10-4, 2.29 ERA) will get the start for Oakland, as he looks to build on an exceptional first half.

Consider This Before Placing Your Bets

The A’s have to be considered the favorites in this one, simply because of the presence of Gray on the mound. If they can continue to hit as well as they have been of late, this is one that Oakland might win quite comfortably.
