As we head into the final couple of weeks of the regular season, MLB betting fans will start to see a higher level of desperation kick in for a number of teams. Two teams that are sure to be feeling the heat right now are the Houston Astros and the LA Angels, and they will meet in the City of Angels on Friday to kick off a series that is absolutely crucial to them both.

It looked for the longest time as though the Houston Astros (76-64) were going to coast to a division title, but a dramatic turnaround by the Texas Rangers has seem the division become incredibly tight. The Astros are holding onto a slim 2-game lead, but are not playing the kind of ball that would suggest that they can maintain that grip. The Astros are just 4-6 in their last 10 games, and are in the midst of a 10-game road trip that could play a major part in where they finally end up at the end of the season.

They got this trip off to a losing start by dropping 2 of 3 in Oakland, and they still have to travel to head into enemy territory to face the Rangers in a 4-game series to kick off next week. A poor showing over the next 7 games could potentially see the Astros fall out of a playoff spot. Dallas Keuchel (17-6, 2.29 ERA) has been excellent all season long, and s coming into this one on a 5-game unbeaten run.

The stretch run has been a case of one step forward, two steps back for the LA Angels (70-69). They have been struggling to close the 1.5 game lead that the Texas Rangers have on them for the final Wild Card spot, but they helped their cause by taking 2 of 3 from the Rangers last week. The bad news was that they followed that up by losing a series to the LA Dodgers, essentially putting themselves right back where they started.

If truth be told, it may well be the Houston Astros that the Angels are targeting now, especially if they can win this series. The Astros have to play the Rangers next week, which may well allow the Angels to sneak in the back door and apply some real pressure. Jered Weaver (6-10, 4.78 ERA) will start for the Angels on Friday.

The Astros appear to be a much more confident bunch with Dallas Keuchel on the mound, and I think that will carry over into this game. I like the Astros to come up with the big win here.
