The Toronto Blue Jays and the LA Angels are both in very similar spots right now. They both currently hold down a playoff spot, but are still within striking distance of their respective divisions. That makes the weekend series between these two in LA all the more important, with the Angels hoping they can use home field advantage to get the series win. The opening game is set for Friday night with Toronto set as the favorite on MLB lines.

The Angels (63-57) are 3 games back of the Astros in the AL West, and are clinging desperately to a Wild Card spot. They know there is little room for error, especially with so many teams breathing down their necks. The Angels were in danger of sliding into playoff obscurity, losing 6 of 7 games before bouncing back to take 3 in a row from the Chicago White Sox, and a potential sweep on Thursday.

Losing CJ Wilson for the rest of the season was a blow for the Angels, but they will be happy to see that promising youngster Caleb Cowart has not looked out of place so far. If Mike Trout can get over his niggling wrist injury, the Angels could still be a genuine threat. Hector Santiago (7-6, 2.86 ERA) will get the start for the Angels, who have lost 4 of the last 5 games with him on the mound.

The situation that the Blue Jays (66-55) find themselves in is a little more comfortable than that of the Angels. They hold a comfortable lead in the Wild Card race, and are still well within striking distance of the New York Yankees in the AL East. The Jays have had a couple of tough losses of late, but this is a team that had an 11-game win streak broken up just last week. Thy have been one of the hottest teams in baseball since the trade deadline, and have the personnel to make a real run at the World Series. David Price (11-4, 2.41 ERA) has been nothing short of brilliant since coming over from the Tigers.

Key Betting Trends

  • The total has gone UNDER in 4 of LA Angels’s last 6 games
  • LA Angels is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games at home
  • Toronto is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games on the road

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

This could well be a bit of a pitching duel, which I believe gives the Blue Jays the edge. Look for Toronto to win in a close one.
