The AL East has been strangely entertaining this year, but also incredibly tough to figure out. It was beginning to look for a while as though no-one really wanted to take the bull by the horns in the division, but now you have the Rays, Jays, and Orioles all stringing together a solid run of games, while the Yankees continue to play consistent ball. The New York Yankees will try to keep pace with the charging pack when they face the Miami Marlins in a 4-game series, with the third of that set scheduled for Wednesday in Miami and the Yankees listed as -168 favorites on MLB odds.

The New York Yankees (34-29) saw a 7-game win streak come to an ends last week versus the Washington Nationals. They managed to eventually split that series, but then followed it up by losing 2 of 3 to the hard charging Baltimore Orioles. To make matters worse, the Yanks surrendered the division lead to the Tampa Bay Rays, whilst also being forced to send closer Andrew Miller to the DL. With this division starting to become really competitive, the Yankees are going to have their work cut out for them as the injuries and losses start to come thick and fast again. Michael Pineda (7-3, 3.74 ERA) will start for the Yankees on Wednesday. Pineda will be looking to bounce back after getting hit hard and taking the loss in his last start versus the Orioles.
While this has mostly been a season to forget for the Miami Marlins (28-37) to this point, there are some positives that need to be recognized. Giancarlo Stanton has delivered a highlight reel season, sending bomb after bomb out of ballparks all over the country. Mat Latos came off the DL over the weekend and pitched a beauty, and Miami has now won 4 of their last 5 games. They are still pretty far adrift from the top spot in the NL East, but at least they are starting to show some signs of life. They kept that going by taking the first game of this series in the Big Apple. Jose Urena (1-2, 4.44 ERA) will get the ball Miami on Wednesday. The Marlins have won the last 2 games that Urena has started.

The Marlins are going through a very nice spell right now, but the truth is that very few people expect it to last. The Yankees desperately want to stay at or near the top in the division, and will use that as inspiration to win this one.
