New York vs Boston MLB Betting Preview

The 162-game baseball betting season can lead to stretches of games that are pretty meaningless and dull, especially at the start of the year. The one thing that can really get fans fired up again is a series against a hated rival. That’s what the Boston Red Sox fans will get starting on Friday, when the reviled New York Yankees come to town for a 3-game series.

New York Yankees vs Boston Red Sox MLB Betting Preview

Time: 7:10PM
Venue: Fenway Park
Opening Line: Boston -131

The Yankees (13-9) have been one of the surprise teams in the MLB during the opening month of the season. There wasn’t really anyone outside of New York who gave them any chance of winning the division, yet they are sitting on top as April draws to a close. They have been getting production from some unexpected sources, A-Rod in particular, and have seen their starting rotation do a better than average job to this point. Rodriguez needs just 1 more home run to reach 660, which would put him in a tie with Willie Mays for 4th best all-time. As much as he would love to hot that historic HR at home, I also think he would take some real satisfaction in getting it at Fenway. CC Sabathia (0-4, 5.96 ERA) will get the start on Friday as he searches for his first win of the season.

Depending on who you ask, the Boston Red Sox (12-10) are either underperforming or right where they are supposed to be in the division. There seemed to be a split among pundits and fans on what Boston would do this season. While some believed that they could make the jump from worst to first this year, there were plenty more who believed that they don’t have enough to get past the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays. This looks like being a tight division all year long, though, so all 5 teams are going to have to avoid going on extended losing streaks that could quickly drop them out of contention. Justin Masterson (2-0, 5.16 ERA) will get the ball for Boston on Friday. He has been steady in his 4 starts this season, with the Red Sox able to win 3 of those outings.

The Yankees will be looking for some revenge after losing the last series to Boston at the start of the month. I just don’t see them getting the start they want with Sabathia on the mound, though, and I like the Red Sox to win this one.
