Every season delivers a team or two who end up going well beyond what was expected of their MLB odds heading in. One of the biggest surprises of the 2015 season has to be the New York Yankees. The general consensus was that they were too old and lacking in quality, but they have surprised everyone. They will try to keep things rolling when they welcome in the Cleveland Indians for a 4-game series starting on Thursday.

Cleveland Indians at New York Yankees MLB Betting Lines & Game Info

Time: Thursday, 7:05 p.m. ET
Venue: Yankee Stadium, New York
National TV: none
Opening line: Yankees -155

The character of this Yankees (66-52) team has very much been put to the test over the past couple of weeks, and after a bit of doubt, they have managed to come out the other side looking pretty good. They saw their 6.5 game lead atop the AL East wiped out by the Blue Jays, but they got it back after heading up to Toronto and taking 2 of 3. They followed that up with back to back wins over the Twins, and at time of writing, look set to complete the sweep.

The Yankees went through a little bit of a power outage during their poor run of form, but the bats look to be back in business, including the lumber swung by A-Rod, who hit his 25th career Grand Slam a couple of nights ago. The Yankees have the lead in the division again, but will need to work hard to hold off the surging Jays. Ivan Nova (5-4, 3.57 ERA) will try to make it 5 wins in 6 games when he starts on Thursday.

The Cleveland Indians (55-63) had a pretty decent run of things last week despite missing a couple of key players from their line-up. They were able to take 2 of 3 from the Yankees in that stretch, but it looks as though they are coming back to earth this week. They lost 2 of 3 to a struggling Twins team, and might end up with the same result against a very poor Boston Red Sox side. Take away the 8-2 win over Boston and you see a team who is struggling to get runs across the plate. The Indians are essentially just playing for pride at the moment, but they would also love to take hurt the Yankees again in this series.

Josh Tomlin (0-1, 2.84 ERA) will make just his second start after performing quite well against the Twins in a losing effort.
The Yankees look as though they are ready to go on a good run again, and I really don’t see the Indians being able to get in the way of that. I’m taking New York to get the win here.
