Season Series

Dallas leads 1-0 as on Dec. 2 it won 114-110 at home. Mavericks forward Harrison Barnes registered a game-high 30 points, including 15 in the first quarter, to go along with nine rebounds in 38 minutes. J.J. Barea tallied 24 points, including 20 in the first half to go along with five rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes off the bench. Former Clipper DeAndre Jordan had 16 points and a game-high 23 rebounds. Star Mavs rookie Luka Doncic didn’t play. Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell posted a double-double with team-highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench. Lou Williams produced 21 points off the bench.

The home team has won each of the last six regular-season meetings.

Why Bet on Dallas?

The Mavs lost a third straight Tuesday, falling 126-118 in Denver. Harrison Barnes hit 10-of-16 from the field for 30 points, four rebounds, a steal, a block and zero turnovers in 34 minutes. The 30 points tie the season high he had in the first meeting with the Clippers. Barnes has scored in double digits in every game since October 29.

Luka Doncic hit just 5-of-15 shots hit 10-of-12 free throws for 23 points, six rebounds, 12 assists, a steal and just one turnover in 35 minutes. He’s averaging 19 points, 7.6 rebounds, 8.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.4 3-pointers over the past five.

Doncic is averaging a team-high 18.4 points, 6.7 rebounds (2nd on team), 4.9 assists (2nd on team), 1.1 steals and a team-high 32.5 minutes per game this season. He is shooting 43.1 percent (171-of-397) from the field, 35.7 percent (60-of-168) from 3-point range and 77.2 percent (112-of-145) from the free-throw line. Among all rookies in 2018-19, he ranks first in scoring, second in rebounding, second in assists, third in steals, first in minutes, sixth in 3-point field goal percentage and eighth in free throw percentage.

Point guard Dennis Smith Jr. (wrist) missed Tuesday’s game, his second consecutive out of the lineup, and this wrist issue has now forced him to miss six out of the past seven games. He could be looking at another extended absence. Expect rookie Jalen Brunson to start again here.

“I don’t think it would be in my best interest health-wise to continue to play knowing that things can happen to re-aggravate and make the process a lot longer than it should be,” Smith said. “I just got to sit and take [my] time.”

Smith injured the wrist against Memphis in mid-November. Tests showed no structural damage and the second-year point guard tried to play through the pain. But he has had trouble shooting the ball from long range.

Why Bet on LA Clippers?

The Clippers dropped their fourth in a row Monday, 131-127 vs. Portland. It was Portland’s first win on the road since Nov. 20 after dropping six in a row. Danilo Gallinari, who finished with 22 points, missed a 3-pointer late for L.A., but after a scramble got the ball back and made the same shot to leave the Clippers trailing 127-126. CJ McCollum got fouled and made both to keep the Trail Blazers ahead by three. The Clippers were forced to foul Damian Lillard, who hit both free throws to seal the win.

Tobias Harris scored 39 points, shooting 15-of-22 from the field, while also tallying 11 rebounds. It was a career high for Harris, who has scored 30 points or more three times this season. And with nine double-doubles thus far, he’s likely a safe bet to establish a new career high for double-doubles in a season (he had 12 during the 2015-16 campaign).

Mavericks vs Clippers should be an easy victory for Los Angeles.

Gallinari shot 6-of-16 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line for his 22 points, with five rebounds, three assists, and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes. The Clippers are just 2-7 in December, but Gallinari is playing pretty well. This month he’s averaging 19.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 three-pointers per game, shooting 45.5% from the field and 41.5% from three.

Rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander established a new career-high Monday with 24 points, while also accounting for three assists, two rebounds, and two 3-pointers. Gilgeous-Alexander had yet to reach the 20-point mark in a game this season prior to Monday, and his performance nearly made up for the struggles of fellow starting guard Avery Bradley (0-of-4 FG, zero points). The rookie out of Kentucky averaged just 7.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in the three games prior.

The Clips remain without the best Sixth Man in the NBA, Lou Williams. Williams, who is averaging 17.2 points and 4.5 assists, was injured against Phoenix on Dec. 10 and played just 12 minutes. He is listed as questionable for this one but not likely to play.
