The second TNT doubleheader game on Thursday night is a good one as Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder visit the San Antonio Spurs in a potential playoff preview. The Spurs opened as NBA odds underdogs on the wrong end of a back-to-back.

Somehow, it’s the first meeting. They split last year and the Spurs have won the past six at home. The final meeting came on March 29 when the Spurs won 103-99 at the AT&T Center. LaMarcus Aldridge led the way with a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double performance. Paul George notched a team-best 26 points (9-20 FG, 3-6 3FG, 5-5 FT) to go along with 7 boards, 6 assists and 4 steals for OKC. San Antonio is 61-23 all-time at home in the series.
Oklahoma City general manager Sam Presti was a member of the Spurs front office from 2000–07, ascending to assistant general manager.
Why Bet on Oklahoma City?
The Thunder were upset for the second straight game at home on Tuesday and have lost a solid reserve big man for a while. On Tuesday, Minnesota won 119-117 in OKC. That was the Wolves’ first game since firing coach Tom Thibodeau. Russell Westbrook missed two 3-pointers in the closing seconds that would have given the Thunder the lead. He finished with 25 points and 16 assists but was just 1-for-6 from deep.
Steven Adams finished 8-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line for 20 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, two steals and five turnovers in 37 minutes. It was Adams’ 10th game of the season with at least 20 points. Dennis Schroder played through his quad injury on Tuesday vs. the Wolves, finishing with nine points, four assists, two boards and one triple in 28 minutes.
Nerlens Noel was stretchered off the court after a scary fall on Tuesday night. He suffered the injury while contesting an Andrew Wiggins dunk, but when he fell he slammed his head on the court. Noel has been released from the hospital and has been placed in the NBA’s concussion protocol. The good news is he did not suffer any fractures, but Noel is likely going to miss a decent amount of time as he recovers from one of the scarier injuries of the season. Patrick Patterson should see most of the backup minutes behind Adams.
OKC tops the league in offensive rebounding (12.7) and ranks fourth in second-chance points (15.0), giving themselves 5.5 more shots per game than opponents, good for best in the NBA. The Thunder is also winning the game in transition, ranking fifth in preventing opponent shots in transition (18.3 percent) and taking the second-most shots in transition as a team (27.7 percent). Oklahoma City leads the league for both the most steals per contest (10.44) and the most turnovers forced per game (18.2).
Why Bet on San Antonio?
The Spurs entered Wednesday’s game in Memphis on a five-game winning streak. This line could change depending on what happened there. There’s also the real chance that Coach Gregg Popovich sits a guy or two out here in the second of a back-to-back.
San Antonio currently ranks first in the NBA in fewest turnovers, coughing up 12.2 per game. The Silver and Black have turned the ball over 10-or-fewer times in 15 games this season, which is the most such games in the NBA this season.
The Spurs are first in the league in free throw percentage this season, shooting .825 (743-901) from the charity stripe. San Antonio is shooting at a .397 clip from behind the arc this season, which ranks first in the NBA. The Spurs have finished a season shooting over 40 percent from the 3-point line just once in team history (40.7 percent in 2000-01). The Spurs have three qualified players shooting above 40 percent from behind the arc. This list includes Davis Bertans (46.9), Bryn Forbes (43.0) and Rudy Gay (41.5). At 46.9 percent, Bertans ranks third in the NBA.
Bryn Forbes was thrust into the starting point guard role after the Spurs suffered injuries to three members of their backcourt. Since, the start of the 2018-19 season Forbes has the most double-digit performances of any undrafted player in the NBA. His 30 double-digit performances are a new career best for a single season.
