Third-seeded Michigan may be the ‘hotter’ team when they take on top-seeded Villanova in their 2018 National Championship showdown on Monday night, but the Wolverines are going to have their hands completely full in trying to upset a Wildcats team that has won each of the NCAA Tournament games this year by double digits.

If you’re looking to find out if Michigan can either pull off the outright upset or cover the chalk as the biggest underdog since 2010, then consider your March Madness ticket punched! Let’s find out what’s going to go down right now and who’s got the best March Madness odds to win the big one.

Why Consider Betting On Michigan at +6.5?

Why should you consider betting on third-seeded Michigan in the national championship? There are a bunch of great reasons why you should bet on the Wolverines. First, Michigan is on fire, having won a whopping 14 straight games coming into the national championship. Second – and possibly most important – Michigan has an elite defense that limits the opposition to just 62.9 points per game to rank eighth nationally in points allowed.

Despite having just three players that average double figures in scoring, the Wolverines also have a mental toughness about them that has helped them beat several more talented teams like Michigan State and Purdue just to name two. Michigan dispatched upstart 11th-seed Loyola-Chicago 69-57 in the Final Four on Saturday to cover the chalk as a 5.5-point favorite and improve to a blistering 11-2-1 ATS over their last 14 games.

“Aggressive and confident, as always, and we see what happens,” big man Mortiz Wagner said afterward. “I kept looking possession by possession — we had trouble scoring the first half,” Wagner added. “We scored 22 points and that was kind of the only way we found our way to the basket, grab offensive rebounds and get second-shot opportunities. And I honestly just tried to do my job. The shots were falling the second half. It’s a lot more fun when the ball goes [in] the net.”

Why Consider Betting On Villanova at -6.5?

Why should you consider betting on top-seeded Villanova in the national championship? There are a handful of excellent reasons why you should consider backing the top-seeded Wildcats. First, Villanova is also on fire and playing arguably their best basketball of the season, having won 10 straight games coming into the national championship. Then there’s the fact that Villanova is the best offensive team in the nation this season, as they finished first by averaging a whopping 86.8 points per contest. Not only that, but the Wildcats are, as far as I could find, the only team in the nation with an insane, six players that all averaged double figures in scoring.

“It’s our best offensive team,” coach Jay Wright said. “We’ve had some good ones. This is definitely our best.”

Villanova has won each of their five NCAA Tournament games this postseason by double digits, including their 95-79 Final Four win over Kansas on Saturday night in which they set an March Madness record by draining a whopping 18 three-pointers in the win to easily cover the spread as a 5-point favorite and improve to 8-2 ATS over their last 10.

Is Villanova a safe bet to win the 2018 National Championship?

“We have confidence to take some 3s, but even if we miss we don’t worry about that,” junior Mikal Bridges said last week. The Cats have now hit 15 or more 3-pointers in a game 11 times this season while shooting 50 percent or better seven times.

“Catch to shoot. And [coach Wright] gets on us if we don’t catch to shoot,” redshirt freshman Omari Spellman said last week. “We just go by the same, shoot ’em up, sleep in the streets. And it’s worked for us so far.

Expert Analysis and Prediction

Michigan came alive down the stretch run of the regular season and beat higher ranked Michigan State and Purdue en route to claiming their conference championship tournament and the Wolverines have looked really solid in the NCAA Tournament outside of their ‘lucky’ win against Houston in the second round.

Having said all of that, I don’t think there’s enough defense in the world to beat a Villanova team in which every player on the floor can score the ball no matter where they catch it. The Wildcats have it all college basketball bettors. Nova has an elite floor leader that doesn’t make mistakes in Jalen Brunson.

They’ve got a bunch of sweet-shooting perimeter players than can all put the ball on the floor and take it to the rack if you closeout on them to quickly and closely.

Villanova also has a five-star blossoming big man and a lengthy small forward that is going to be an NBA lottery pick this summer. The Wildcats have experience with three significant contributors still on the roster from their national championship-winning team from two years ago and an excellent head coach that has been there and done that.

While Michigan has gone 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games following a straight up win, 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games and an impressive 36-17-4 ATS in their last 57 neutral site games,Villanova has also been outstanding when it comes to covering the spread.

The Wildcats are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 NCAA Tournament games, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS win, a near-perfect 10-1 ATS in their last 11 vs. Big Ten and a scorching 22-8 ATS in their last 30 neutral site games.

I had Villanova winning it all on the first day of the season and nothing I’ve seen makes me change my mind. The Wildcats win and cover the chalk!

Pick: Villanova -6.5
