Duke vs Notre Dame NCAA Basketball Odds Analysis

Written by on February 7, 2015

There are a lot of great match-ups to look forward to on the college basketball calendar this coming Saturday, but the College hoops betting lines that really jump off the page are for the game between the Duke Blue Devils (19-3, 6-3) and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (21-3, 9-2). If this one comes close to the excitement of their previous meeting, which was just 10 days prior, then we are in for a great one.

Date/Time: February 7th, 2015 / 1:00PM Venue: Cameron Indoor Stadium, Durham, North Carolina Spread: Duke -9

My Special Analysis and Game Preview

That previous meeting was a see-saw battle that saw both teams have the lead on multiple occasions. It was Notre Dame who eventually prevailed, grabbing a 77-73 victory that was all the more impressive when you consider that they were down by 10 points at one stage on the proceedings. Jerian Grant wowed the South bend faithful that night with 23 points, 12 assists, and 6 rebounds, while Jahlil Okafor led the way for Duke with 22 points. Grant has been the man for the Irish all year, scoring an average of 17.3 PPG. He is not the only one on the #10 ranked Notre Dame team who is putting up good numbers, though. They have three other players – Zach August (13.7), Pat Connaughton (13.5), and Demetrius Jackson (12.9) – averaging double digits per game. Duke have managed to put a rough start to January, where they lost 2 straight, behind them, and have reeled off 5 wins in their last 6. That lone loss came against the Irish on the road. They have certainly looked a whole lot better during that stretch, and they are going to have to continue that trend if they hope to walk away from this one with the win. They will, as always, be looking to Okafor to make a big contribution to the cause. This is a young man that is very much in consideration for the national player of the year, scoring 18.1 PPG, and averaging over 9 rebounds per game. The Duke offense can also look to Tyus Jones and Justise Winslow for scoring, as both are averaging double digits.

Key Betting Trends

• The Fighting Irish are 17-2 SU in their last 19 games • The Blue Devils are 19-3 SU in their last 22 games • The Fighting Irish are 4-1 SU in their last five road games • The Blue Devils are 13-1 SU in their last 14 home games • The total has gone OVER in four of the last six Notre Dame road games • The total has gone OVER in four of the last five Duke games

Consider This Before Placing Your Bet

Both teams need this game in order to try and stay in touch with the Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC Conference. Duke are sure to try and take advantage of home courts, as they always seem to save their best for the fans in the Cameron Indoor Stadium. This one looks as though it will play out in similar fashion to their last meeting, but I think home court swings things in favor of Duke on Saturday.
