Florida State vs Louisville Last Season

The teams met once last season and then-No. 22 Florida State won 80-75 at home in overtime against No. 16 Louisville. Mfiondu Kabengele scored 22 points and Terance Mann added 20 as FSU erased a 10-point second-half deficit to force overtime, where the Seminoles made 11 of 12 free-throw attempts.

The Seminoles had made just 16 of 24 free-throw attempts in regulation but they opened overtime by making all six free throws as part of an 8-0 run. Mann was 5 of 5 from the free-throw line in the extra period. The Cardinals led 52-42 with 10:07 to go. UofL star Jordan Nwora missed a 3-pointer with six seconds left in regulation. Louisville committed 23 turnovers.

Louisville leads the all-time series 34-12.

Why Bet on Florida State?

FSU (12-2) won its fifth in a row on Tuesday, 70-58 at home vs. Georgia Tech (the Seminoles’ two losses were both on the road). Neither team led by more than five points until Florida State seized control by outscoring the Yellow Jackets 22-13 over the final 10 minutes. FSU led 48-45 when Anthony Polite drew a flagrant foul from Jordan Usher on a drive to the basket and that changed everything.

Devin Vassell led a balanced attack with 14 points and Patrick Williams added 12 to lead the Noles (2-1 ACC), who won their 15th consecutive home game. Six players contributed at least seven points, which was even more important given the absence of guard M.J. Walker with a sore hip.

FSU came away with 11 steals, marking the eighth time in 14 games the ACC-leading Noles have reached double-figures in steals. Eight of the Noles’ nine blocked shots came in the first half as FSU matched its second-highest total of the season. The Noles had only 12 turnovers – just three in the second half – while forcing 20, which they converted into 14 points.

Florida State is the only team in the ACC to rank among the ACC’s top six in the turnovers forced, steals per game, blocked shots per game, field goal percentage defense and scoring defense categories.

Run by the Numbers

Florida State has a 41-10 overall record since the beginning of the 2018-19 season. The Seminoles finished the 2018-19 season with a 29-8 record (a school-record for wins in a season) and are 12-2 this season. The Seminoles are one of only three teams in the ACC with at least 40 wins and a winning percentage of 80 percent or better since the beginning of the 2018-19 season. In addition, Florida State has won better than 70 percent of its ACC games and has a 15-6 record in conference play. The Seminoles are one of only four teams with a conference games only winning percentage of 70 percent or better. Florida State is 57-3 at home since the tail end of the 2015-16 season.

With 346 career victories during his tenure at Florida State, 18th-year Head Coach Leonard Hamilton is the seventh all-time winningest coach in ACC history. He needs only three wins to move into sixth place in ACC history (passing Maryland’s Lefty Driesell) and only four wins to become just the sixth coach in ACC to win 350 career games.

Why Bet on Louisville?

The Cardinals (11-2) are off a 78-70 overtime loss at blood-rival Kentucky on Saturday. UK scored the final eight points of OT. Louisville shot just 40% and made just 3 of 9 in overtime. The Cards were also dreadful from the line, making just 9 of 20. Cards star Jordan Nwora managed just eight points with one 3-pointer after entering the game averaging 21.2 points per contest.

Dwayne Sutton finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He now has eight career double-doubles. Sutton scored double figures for the seventh time this season and the 26th time in his career. He also pulled down double digits in rebounds for the sixth time this season. Steven Enoch led the Cardinals in scoring for the first time this season with 18 points and pulled down five rebounds.

The overtime was the first in a regular-season game between the schools and the first since Louisville won 80-68 on March 26, 1983 in the NCAA Tournament.

Some Numbers
