Georgia State vs Xavier Round 3 March Madness Matchup

Written by on March 21, 2015

After pulling off one of the biggest NCAAB odds upsets in the 2015 NCAA tournament so far, unheralded Georgia State will look to ‘keep dancing’ when they battle N. 6 Xavier in their Round 3 matchup on Saturday. Now, let’s find out if the Panthers will be successful in their efforts to either beat the Musketeers or cover the March Madness betting line as a near double-digit underdog.

How To Bet The Panthers vs. Musketeers Round 3 March Madness Odds

When: 6:10 PM ET, Saturday, March 21, 2015 Where: Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, Jacksonville, Florida TV: TNT NCAAB Odds: Xavier -7.5 Over/Under: 132

Xavier Musketeers (22-13 SU, 17-16-1 ATS, 14-19 O/U)

The Musketeers bounced back from their Big East Tournament loss to Villanova to pound Mississippi 76-57 in its NCAA Tournament opener on Thursday as senior center Matt Stainbrook scored a game-high 20 points and senior point guard Dee Davis added 17 points. The win helped Xavier move to 4-1 SU over its last five games and 3-1 ATS over its last four. The Musketeers average 73.6 points per game (39th) and shoot an impressive 47.3 percent from the field (31st). Unfortunately, Xavier hasn’t been quite as good defensively as they allow 67.3 points per game (196th) and rank an identical 191st in field goal (43.4) and three-point field goal (34.4) percentages allowed.

Georgia State Panthers (25-9 SU, 16-17 ATS, 12-14 O/U)

Georgia State has won six straight games and nine of their last 10 games overall. The Panthers put three players in double figures in their tourney opener and held Baylor to just one double-digit scorer in their stunning 57-56 tourney-opening win over the No. 3 Bears on Thursday. Georgia State scored the game’s final 13 points and got a team-high 16 points from leading scorer R.J. Hunter and limited Baylor to just 43 team shots in the win despite playing without second leading scorer Ryan Harrow who sat out with a hamstring injury. The Panthers also forced Baylor into a whopping 21 turnovers and rank sixth in the nation in steals per game (9.1). The Panthers are very good on both sides of the ball as they average an impressive 71.5 points per game (74th) and shoot a stellar 47.9 percent from the field (20th) while also limiting their opponents to just 62.0 points per game (59th) on 38.3 percent shooting, a mark that ranks them 10th nationally.

My Georgia State vs Xavier Betting Analysis

Maybe it’s me…but it just looks like Georgia State belongs in the NCAA Tournament. Having said that, I’m also going to back the Panthers to cover a 7.5-point spread that I think may be just a couple of points too high. The Panthers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following an SU win. I know the Xavier is 19-6-2 ATS in their last 27 NCAA Tournament games, but prior to their last win, the Musketeers had recorded each of their last three wins by six points or less. I’m riding the Georgia State bandwagon – all the way to another ATS cover in their round of 32 matchup against the Musketeers. The Pick: Georgia State Panthers +7.5 Points
