March Madness is still a couple of turns away on the old wall calendar, but it’s never too early to start predicting which teams are going to vie for the title, and which ones might just come out of nowhere and make a run. There is always one team that comes out and goes deeper than anyone thought that they would, and those are the teams we are going to focus on here. We have already talked about the 5 college basketball betting favorites, as well as 5 potential dark horses. Now it’s time to turn our attention to 5 underdogs that might just make a run.
Here’s A Closer Look At The Top March Madness Betting Underdogs
Oregon Ducks
After a sloppy start to the season, the Oregon Ducks have settled into a groove, and have now rattled off 13 straight wins. This included back to backed wins over ranked UCLA and USC, so it’s fair to say that this is a team to be reckoned with. This team had a good run last year, taking out Duke before falling to Oklahoma in the Regional Final. This program has never made it to the Final Four, but could this be the year when that changes?
Wisconsin Badgers
The 13-3 Badgers just saw their 9-game win streak come to an end versus ranked Purdue, but there is still reason to believe that this group could well go on another positive run. They have a couple of wins against ranked teams under their belt this season, and they have a defense that ranks in the top 10 in the nation. You have to go all the way back to 1941 to find their only national title, but this team has gone on two deep runs in recent years, and may be primed to do it again.
Louisville Cardinals
The 13-3 Cardinals have seen their stock drop a little after a shaky start to conference play. In fairness to them, they are in a loaded ACC conference, but the good news is that those conference games will all have the feeling and intensity of a March Madness match-up. The Cardinals are going to slip under the radar from this point forward, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t look out for them when the tournament finally rolls around. Their last national title came in 2013, and the program has 10 Final Four appearances.
Florida State Seminoles
At 16-1, and with 3 straight wins over ranked opponents, the Florida State Seminoles could easily be ranked as one of the favorites, but I still have them listed as an underdog. Their almost 69 PPG allowed worries me just a little, as does their pedigree, which features no national titles, and only a single Final Four appearance. They haven’t even made it into the tournament since 2012, but the way they are playing now may make them a decent underdog bet.
Arizona Wildcats
This is a team that may be the one most under the radar in the top 25. Perhaps it’s because they are very young, and therefore inexperienced, that people aren’t taking notice, but we are. They are atop the Pac-12 with a 4-0 conference record, and are 15-2 overall, with those losses coming against Butler and Gonzaga, neither of which can be described as bad defeats. The Wildcats lost to Wichita State in the opening round last year, but do have a history, with 1 title win and 4 Final Four appearances.
