Reviewing the ABC College Football Odds Week 4 Triple-Header Picks
Texas A&M Aggies -31
Michigan Wolverines -5.5
Clemson Tigers +20
7 Texas A&M Aggies at SMU Mustangs
When: Sept. 20, 3:30 pm ET
Betting Line: Texas A&M -31
Analysis:SMU is one of the worst teams in college football. There’s just no other way to cut it. The Mustangs have given up a total of 88 points so far in two games while scoring only 6 on their end. Losing 0 to 45 to Baylor isn’t a terrible thing, the Bears have one of the best offenses in college football, but 6 to 43 to North Texas? A team that got thumped 42 to 21 by Louisiana Tech in its very next game?
Texas A&M is undefeated and sitting on a 2 and 1 against the spread record. The Aggies are simply better than SMU. They should roll in this ABC College Football game.
Pick:Texas A&M -31
Utah Utes at Michigan Wolverines
When:Sept. 20, 3:30 pm ET
Betting Line:Michigan -5.5
Analysis: Most football handicappers are picking Michigan to cover in this game, 57%, but Utah will have its fans. The Utes have arguably been more impressive this season than Michigan. While Michigan looked horrendous in a 0 to 31 road loss to Notre Dame, Utah has rolled over Idaho State, 56 to 14, and Fresno State 59 to 27.
But neither one of those teams is really all that good, meaning that Utah could have some trouble against the Wolverines in Ann Arbor. Michigan is 8 and 3 ATS in their last 11 home games while Utah is 2 and 6 against the spread in their last 8 road games. The Wolverines should cover in this ABC College Football contest.
24 Clemson Tigers at 1 Florida State Seminoles
When:Sept. 20, 8:00 pm ET
Betting Line:Florida State -20
Analysis:This is supposed to be one of Florida State’s toughest games of the season. If it is, the 20 point football odds line could have fooled us. Florida State is a solid team, the number one ranked team in the nation, but they’re 0 and 2 against the spread this season. More importantly, they’ve routinely beat Clemson by about an average of 17 points in the last 6 meetings. The line is at 20 meaning that the Tigers probably have the upper hand in this contest. It’s going to be tough for Clemson to pull off the upset, but they’ve got close to 3 touchdowns to work with in this one and FSU is going to sit Jameis Winston for the first half of this extremely important game after he was seen shouting an obscene sexual phrase on campus this past Tuesday.
According to Coach Jimbo Fisher, “You can’t make certain statements that are derogatory or inflammatory to any person, race or gender. You have to understand that. You have to be very intelligent about what you say, (because) it matters.” That could be bad for Florida State because even though the Tigers took a 14 to 51 beat down last season, one has to figure that Clemson coaches have studied the game film and will go into this already having made the adjustments. Florida State has the ability to blow Clemson out again without Winston for an entire half, but the Tigers are a solid team and a solid program. Things should be different in the 2014 rematch of last season’s ridiculous contest.
