It has seemed like an incredibly long time since the regular season ended with all the conference champions decided and the playoff teams ranked. We have been treated to some great bowl games over the last few weeks, but if we are being honest, we have all been counting down the days until January 1, as that is when we get back into meaningful action with the college football playoffs set to go. The good news is that we don’t really have to sit around all day waiting for the action to begin, as the Rose Bowl will get the playoff party started at 5 PM EST, and with our online sportsbook Rose Bowl betting preview you will be all set to enjoy the action.
This is a game that is sure to be a treat, as it features arguably the best QB in the college game going against a defense that was outstanding through the regular season. It is Heisman winner Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners going against the junkyard dog defense of the Georgia Bulldogs, and I think we are in for an absolute classic. The Bulldogs are 2-point favorites, with the point total for the Rose Bowl set at 60.

Why bet on the Georgia Bulldogs?
Pardon the pun, the tide may have turned in the SEC, with the Georgia Bulldogs taking the conference championship that has long been the property of Alabama. The success of the Bulldogs is somewhat unexpected given that it has come in just the second year under head coach Kirby Smart. It is also unexpected because it has happened with a rookie QB at the helm. What is not quite so surprising with this team is the stunning effectiveness of their running game, with Chubb and Michel taking turns carving holes through opposing defenses.
The Dawgs defense was great last year, but have taken it up another notch in 2017, allowing just 13 PPG, and sitting in the top 10 in defending the pass, which they will need to excel at against Baker Mayfield. The Bulldogs finished the season at 12-1, going 9-4 ATS and 5-7 O/U. Georgia is also 9-3 SU in it’s last 12 January games.

Why bet on the Oklahoma Sooners?
The Oklahoma Sooners finished the regular season with a 12-1 record, and much of the credit needs to go to Baker Mayfield and the Sooners offense, as they finished the season averaging almost 45 PPG. That’s an offensive juggernaut that is going to be nearly impossible to stop, and the best way to do that is to keep them off the field. This is where the Sooners Achilles heel may come into play, as their defense was about as leaky as it gets for a playoff team, ranking 81st in the nation.
While the Sooners D gave up a lot of yards, they still only gave up 25 PPG, limiting teams to FG’s as opposed to TD’s more often than not. The danger in the Rose Bowl, though, is that they will not be able to handle the Bulldogs running game, which could potentially eat up the clock and keep Mayfield on the sidelines. Oklahoma went 8-5 ATS and 6-6-1 O/U this season. 7 of Oklahoma’s last 8 games against SEC opponents have gone UNDER.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
This is going to be a close one, but I think the Bulldogs will use their running game to devastating effect, forcing Mayfield to take some chances that could lead to turnovers. I’m going with the Bulldogs to win by 3, with the point total creeping OVER.
