There are some sports rivalries that are considered to be somewhat friendly, or at least as friendly as you can be with a rival. One that would definitely not fall into that category is the Georgia/Georgia Tech rivalry, as these are two schools and sets of fans that have a genuine contempt for one another. Georgia will point to their proud football history, while Tech fans are more content to talk about the brains of their alumni versus that of their state rivals. So in a few words, this is a game that always promises to be fun to watch and bet on.So who has the edge on the latest College Football Odds? The answer may not surprise you.

Why Take the Georgia Bulldogs?

The fate of the Georgia Bulldogs season may actually be decided before the kick-off of the rivalry game. Missouri and Arkansas meet on Friday, and Georgia needs the Razorbacks to win this weekend in order to lock the SEC East and head to the Championship Game in Atlanta. If that happens, you have to believe that they will bring their A-game to Tech, as the feeling among many is that the SEC Champion will still find a spot in the playoffs, even if they are a 2-loss team. There is a lot that has to happen before all of that plays out, though, and you can bet that Georgia Tech would love to spoil things for their rivals.

Why Bet on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets?

Georgia Tech have been a bit of a surprise this season, going 9-2 and already booking their spot in the ACC Championship Game, where they will meet Florida State. The danger here is that they will be looking ahead to that one and not focusing on getting the job done versus the Bulldogs. It’s unlikely that will happen, though, as they will not want to have to go through another year of hearing about another loss from the Bulldogs fans. There is certainly a lot more than state pride at stake here, which makes this one of the most intriguing match-ups on the schedule this weekend.

My Expert Game Analysis and Betting Prediction

Given the records of both teams, it may come as a surprise to learn that the Bulldogs are a 12.5-point favorite for this one. Georgia is 7-4 ATS this season, as well as being 4-2 ATS at home. That said, they are 0-2 ATS when placed as a favorite in the 10.5-21 point range. Tech are also 7-4 ATS this season, and they have been particularly good on the road, going 4-1 ATS away from home. Georgia is 2-0 SU and ATS going back the last couple of years, but that was against a much weaker Tech team that what is on display this season. A lot is going to depend on what happens in the Missouri game on Friday, but either way, I still think the Bulldogs pull out the win. I’m not sure it’s going to be a blowout, though, which is why I like Georgia Tech +12.5.
