Top Picks for first round of 2018 NCAA Football Bowls
AutoNation Cure Bowl – Tulane Green Wave vs ULL Ragin’ CajunsULL comes in with the better regular season record of these two, going 7-5 SU versus the 6-6 record posted by Tulane. These two have met 7 times previously, with the Green Wave winning 5 of those meetings.
This may help explain why Tulane is in as a 3-point favorite for this one, but it is the point total that I am looking at here. The point total for this one has been set at 59. Tulane has seen 5 of their last 7 games go UNDER, while ULL has seen 4 of their last 5 go the same way. I am on the UNDER here.
New Mexico Bowl – North Texas Mean Green vs Utah State AggiesIt was a disappointing end to the regular season for the Aggies, losing to the Boise State Broncos to snap an impressive winning streak.
They still ended the season with 10 wins and are in as a 9-point favorite in the New Mexico Bowl versus the 9-3 North Texas Mean Green. The Aggies were a great ATS pick this season, covering in 9 of their 12 games, while the Mean Green have failed to cover in their last 5. I like the Aggies to win and cover the spread here.
Las Vegas Bowl – Fresno State Bulldogs vs Arizona State Sun DevilsThe Fresno State Bulldogs are coming into this one as the champions of the Mountain West Conference and are coming into their bowl game as a 4 ½ point favorite.
The Sun Devils have respectable first year under new head coach Herm Edwards, finishing the regular season with a 7-5 record. While the Bulldogs saw most of their games fall under this season, I think that the total of 52 points can be topped by these two, which is why I am on the OVER.
Camellia Bowl – Georgia Southern Eagles vs Eastern Michigan EaglesWe have a pair of different Eagles teams looking to fly high in the Camellia Bowl. Georgia Southern will bring their triple option offense to the table, while Eastern Michigan deliver more of a balanced attack.
The bookies have this as an incredibly close one, with the point spread opening at just 1 point in favor of Georgia Southern. That’s a little too close to call for my blood, so I am instead looking at the point total, where I see this one going OVER 47 ½.
New Orleans Bowl – Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs Appalachian State MountaineersThe Mountaineers have become known as a team that rises to the occasion when they go against the bigger schools, as they did again this season against Penn State in Week 1.
They are 7-point favorites for this one and while I think they win and cover here, the bet that I like the best here is the point total. Appalachian State averaged close to 37 PPG this season, which makes the 50 ½ points here look like a b it of a bargain. I am on the OVER.
