5 Fearless College Football Betting Predictions 2017 Big 10

Written by on August 17, 2017

Will the Ohio State Buckeyes live up to their preseason status as prohibitive favorites to win the Big 10 in 2017? Can the Michigan Wolverines contend for a spot on the four-team after losing almost everyone on the defensive side of the ball? If you’ve got questions about the current NCAA football conference odds, then I’ve got answers thanks to my five fearless predictions that you’re about to get on the Big 10 as we get set for the upcoming 2017 college football season. Will the Wisconsin Badgers surprise everyone to win the Big 10 in 2017 or will the Penn State Nittany Lions get the ‘revenge’ they’re looking for after getting left out of the four-team playoff despite winning the Big Ten a year ago?

5 Fearless College Football Betting Predictions 2017 Big 10

Ohio State Buckeyes Lose Two!

The Buckeyes have a legitimate Heisman Trophy contending quarterback in dual-threat star J.T. Barrett and they won 11 games a year ago to reach the CFP despite not winning the Big 10 or beating Penn State, but I’m thinking ‘karma’ is going to come back to bite them in a big way in 2017 as they drop two games to both, fail to win the Big 10 – or reach the four-team playoff. I think the Buckeyes will be on the wrong end of a home loss against a Penn State squad that is absolutely loaded and I’ve also got Ohio State falling on the road at Michigan in their regular season finale as the Wolverines get their revenge for their heartbreaking overtime loss against the Buckeyes last season. In addition to these aforementioned pair of losses I’m expecting the Buckeyes to take this coming season, I guess I should also say that Ohio State could very well lose to Oklahoma and Baker Mayfield at home in a huge Week 2 non-conference clash.

Michigan Beats Ohio State

While polarizing head coach Jim Harbaugh can come off as pretty arrogant at times, there’s no doubt the man knows how to both, build a winning program and coach the game. Having said that, I’m going to predict that Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines get some revenge for their crushing 30-27 overtime loss they took against Ohio State last season. Coach Jim Harbaugh can come off as pretty arrogant at times, there’s no doubt the man knows how to both, build a winning program and coach the game for BIG 10. I know Michigan lost a whopping 10 starters on the defensive side of the ball, but the Wolverines have a pretty decent quarterback of their own in Wilton Speight and they’ll be playing at home in what could be the biggest and most important game of the season.

Wisconsin Reaches Conference Title Tilt

The Badgers (11-3) won the Big 10 West (7-3 conf.) even though Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan all lost fewer conference games, but I like Wisconsin to get back in the conference title tilt after narrowly falling to Penn State 38-31 in a thriller last season. The Badgers ranked a stellar seventh nationally in total defense, third against the rush and fourth in points allowed (15.6 ppg) and I believe they’ll have another fantastic defense again in 2017 despite losing star linebacker T.J. Watt. If Wisconsin can improve their offense a bit this coming season, the Badgers could end up playing for a lot more than just their conference championship.

Northwestern Wins 8

So what the Wildcats (7-6 SU, 8-5 ATS) barely recorded a winning record a year ago, they’re on the map and well on their way to another winning campaign in 2017 if you ask me. I know the Wildcats need to improve an offense that averaged a modest 26.0 points per game last season to rank 87th in scoring nationally, but Northwestern also has a very good defense that held their opponents to just 22.2 points per game to finish 24th nationally in points allowed. With quarterback in Clayton Thorson (3,182 yards) and starting running back in Justin Jackson (1,524 yards) back in 2017, I’m expecting Northwestern to be a bit more explosive offensively while still playing defense at a high level. The Wildcats have a manageable schedule that includes a trio of winnable games against Nevada, Duke and Bowling Green to start their season and I believe they could win games against Maryland, Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Purdue, Minnesota and Illinois. I’m going with eight wins for Northwestern in 2017 and you should too, making the Wildcats an easy pick to play over their win total odds.

Penn St. Nittany Lions Win the Conference and Reach CFP

I’ve been scratching my head all summer and I still can’t figure out why Penn State (11-3 SU, 10-3-1 ATS) isn’t the favorite to win the Big Ten in 2017. The Nittany Lions beat Ohio State during the regular season and took out a game Wisconsin squad to win the Big Ten Championship game – and they have two legitimate Heisman Trophy candidates in elusive running back Saquon Barkley (1,496 yds, 22 Tds) and poised quarterback Trace McSorley (3,614 yds, 29 Tds). Penn State has talent at the skill positions and plenty of talent on the defensive side of the ball as well. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, I like Penn State to win the Big ten title in 2017!
