The 20th-ranked Stanford Cardinal and the 18th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils will both look to maintain their narrow national title hopes when they meet in a huge Pac-12 showdown on Saturday. Now, let’s see why this college football odds match up is offering a ton of value.
A Closer Look at the Cardinal @ Sun Devils Week 8 NCAA Football Betting Prediction
When: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Kickoff: 10:30 PM ET
Spread: Stanford -4
Why Bet on the Stanford Cardinal?
Stanford (4-2 SU, 2-3-1 ATS) also bounced back from its Week 6 road loss to Notre Dame to beat Washington State 34-17 and narrowly cover the spread as a 16.5-point home fave. The Cardinal have not allowed more than 17 points all season long and rank first in the nation in points allowed (10.0 ppg). The Cardinal also have the nation’s best scoring defense (8.6 points). “Pressure changes everything,” said safety Zach Hoffpauir, who led Stanford with 15 tackles.
Quarterback Kevin Hogan threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cardinal to victory. “We’re going to try to be perfect but also realize we’re not going to be perfect,” Shaw said, citing a speech star Ty Montgomery gave the team earlier in the day. “Give a great effort and try to be perfect, but when we’re not, we can’t let the sky come falling down around us. We’re just going to play through our mistakes and continue to give a great effort.”
Why Bet on the Arizona State Sun Devils?
Arizona State (4-1 SU, 2-3 ATS) bounced back from its Week 5 home loss to UCLA to beat USC 38-34 and cash in as an 11.5-point road underdog in Week 6. The Sun Devils are coming off a bye in Week 7 after beating the Bruins on the game’s last play. Arizona State scored three TDs in the final 3:53 and wide receiver Jaelen Strong caught a 46-yard touchdown pass from Mike Bercovici as time expired to stun the Bruins. “You never know what this game can come down to,” Strong said.
My Expert Betting Analysis and Prediction
I really like Stanford to win this game and narrowly cover the spread, though I will admit that I expect it to be a bit close. Stanford is 3-0-1 ATS in their last four games against the Sun Devils while the favorite in this series is 5-1-1 ATS over the last seven meetings. Stanford has also gone 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 road games while Arizona State has compiled a dismal 1-4 ATS mark in their last five home games.
The Cardinal are more experienced and I believe they have a huge coaching advantage with David Shaw on their sideline. Ultimately, I believe Stanford’s incredible defense will force the Sun Devils into a couple of costly turnovers. I say back the Stanford Cardinal and call it a day!
My Pick: Stanford -4 Points
