South Florida has lost its chance at a perfect season and is out of the rankings, but the Bulls still have a shot to win the AAC East Division. Not if they are upset at home by Tulane on Saturday, though. The Bulls are NCAAF Betting underdogs but at a surprisingly low number.

Last Season

The Bulls won at Tulane 34-28 in 2017. Quinton Flowers passed for two touchdowns and ran for 138 yards and another score. Flowers, the best QB in school history, is gone now. It was USF’s 24th straight game scoring at least 30 points, but that has since ended. Jonathan Banks passed for two touchdowns for Tulane, including Terren Encalade’s 73-yard catch and run, and the Green Wave nearly clawed back from a 27-point hole. Dontrell Hilliard’s 16-yard touchdown run made it a one-possession game with 2:45 left. But Tulane couldn’t recover an onside kick.

That’s the only previous meeting between the schools.

Why Bet on Tulane?

The Green Wave ended a two-game skid last time out with a 24-17 win at Tulsa. Justin McMillan scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 39-yard keeper with 3:46 left.

After incumbent starter Jonathan Banks lost two fumbles late in a loss to SMU the game previous, Coach Willie Fritz announced he was turning to the LSU transfer McMillan, who started for the first time vs. Tulsa. McMillan didn’t turn it over and ran for nearly 10 yards per carry, and the offensive line had its best game of the year. McMillan was 10-for-19 through the air for 92 yards while rushing for two touchdowns. McMillan, along with the Green Wave rushing attack, blistered the Tulsa defense to the tune of 312 yards on the ground, paced by Corey Dauphine’s 18 carries for 107 yards.

The Wave averaged 5.7 yards per rush in the game, with Darius Bradwell tagging on 76 yards on 12 carries. On the night, Tulane got big rushing plays of 51, 40, 39, 21 and 12 yards to keep offensive drives alive and eat up the clock.

Bradwell is Tulane’s leading rusher this season with 617 yards on 103 carries. Bradwell has scored a team-high seven touchdowns and has scored at least one touchdown in six consecutive games. His streak of scoring a touchdown in six straight games is tied for third nationally. Junior wide receiver Darnell Mooney (71.6) is currently sixth in The American in receiving yards per game. He is also eighth in the league in receptions per game with 4.2.

The Green Wave will look to move to 3-2 in league play for the first time since joining The American in 2014.

Why Bet on USF?

The Bulls started 7-0 and were ranked but then stomped 57-36 in Houston last week. Freshman Johnny Ford rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries to help the Bulls run for at least 200 yards for the sixth time this season. Ford found the end zone twice during USF’s 21-point second quarter that started with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jordan Cronkrite. Seeking his sixth straight 100-yard game, Cronkrite finished with 73 rushing yards and needs 67 more yards to post USF’s ninth 1,000-yard season.

Quarterback Blake Barnett completed 26 of 39 passes for 263 yards. Barnett’s 39-yard touchdown pass to Deangelo Antoine made it a one-score game late in the third quarter, but the Bulls couldn’t put together their fourth double-digit fourth-quarter comeback of the season. Houston was 13-for-18 on third down and had a whopping 684 yards.

Tulane vs South Florida is going to be a close one.

USF is now 35-7 (83.3 %) over its past 42 games. USF entered Saturday tied with Oklahoma (35-6) and Ohio State and bettered only by Alabama and Clemson for the best record in a team’s past 41 games. USF has scored at least 20 points in 38 straight games, the longest streak in the nation. USF has scored at least 30 points in 32 of its last 36 games dating back to the 2015 season.   South Florida has run for at least 3,100 yards each of the last three seasons while ranking in the top 10 in rushing nationally in each season. USF ranked 8th nationally in 2017 (264.1 ypg) and currently stands 16th (233.4ypg). The Bulls currently rank 10th nationally in total offense (500.3 ypg). In 20 games under OC Sterlin Gilbert, USF has been outgained in offensive yards just three times and is averaging 518.77 ypg & 37.08 ppg.   USF has won 20 of its last 23 home games, with 15 wins coming by two touchdowns or more.
