College Football Week 3 ATS Picks and Winning Favorites

Purdue at Missouri

When: Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 4:00 PM ET Where: Faurot Field, Columbia, Missouri TV: SEC Network College Football Week 3 Odds: Missouri -7.5 Analysis: Purdue beat the hell out of overmatched Ohio in its 44-21 in Week 2 just as I predicted. The Boilermakers got a terrific performance out of quarterback David Blough who completed 11 of 13 passes for 235 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions while running back Tario Fuller added142 rushing yards and one score on 16 carries. Missouri got smacked around by South Carolina in its 31-13 Week 2 loss as quarterback Drew Lock completed just 14 of 32 pass attempts for 245 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. The Tigers committed three turnovers and lost the time of possession battle by allowing the Gamecocks to keep possession for almost 37 minutes. The Boilermakers are a perfect 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and 5-0 ATS in their last five games on fieldturf while Missouri has gone 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games in the month of September and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall. For me, it is the hiring of head coach Jeff Brohm that has completely transformed Purdue from a mediocre team to one that can score almost at will. With a convincing 67 percent of public bettors already all over the Boilermakers, I say this Week 3 pick is as easy as pie. Pick: Purdue +7.5

No. 8 Oklahoma State (2-0) at Pittsburgh (1-1)

When: Friday, September 16, 2017 at 12:00 PM ET Where: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh, PA TV: ESPN College Football Week 3 Odds: Pittsburgh +13.5 / Total: OFF Analysis: Eighth-ranked Oklahoma State laid an emphatic 44-7 smackdown on overmatched South Alabama to cover the spread as 28-point road favorites as Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Mason Rudolph completed 25 of 38 passes for 335 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Oklahoma State also limited the Jaguars to a dismal 1-for-10 success rate on third down and Rudolph enters Week 3 on fire, having thrown for 638 yards and six touchdowns with no picks through two games. Pittsburgh got man-handling in its 33-14 Week 2 loss to Penn State just as like my previous predictions. Former USC quarterback Max Browne was mediocre at best in completing just 19 of 32 passes for 138 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions and Pittsburgh’s defense allowed Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley to toss three TD passes in the loss. Oklahoma State has looked really impressive in both of their wins so far this season while Pittsburgh has looked mostly incompetent in barely beating Youngstown State in overtime and getting smacked around by Penn State. The Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last four non-conference games and a near-perfect 5-1 ATS in their last six road games. Conversely, Pittsburgh is just 1-4-1 ATS in the last six games in the month of September and a discouraging 7-19 ATS in their last 26 home games. Keep it simple and back Mason Rudolph and the Oklahoma State Cowboys to win going away! Pick: Oklahoma State -13.5

Baylor at Duke

When: Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 12:30 PM ET Where: Wallace Wade Stadium, Durham, North Carolina TV: ACC Network College Football Week 3 Odds: Duke -13.5 College Football Week 3 Picks: Duke Blue Devils is looking damned good after routing NC Central 60-7 in their opener. Analysis: Baylor has looked completely inept in losing to Liberty in their opener 48-45 two weeks ago and following that up with a stunning 17-10 loss against UTSA in Week 2. Arizona graduate transfer quarterback Anu Solomon has been pretty mediocre so far this season and completed just 10-of-26 passes for 121 yards with one touchdown and one interception against UTSA on Saturday. On the flip side of the coin, Duke Blue Devils is looking damned good after routing NC Central 60-7 in their opener and smacking Northwestern around in their 41-17 Week 2 win on Saturday despite being a 2-point home underdogs.

Duke Blue Devils Past Games Analysis

Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones completed 29-of-45 passes for 305 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while rushing for a team-high 108 yards and two additional touchdowns on 16 carries. Jones has been phenomenal this season so far by passing for 518 yards with four touchdowns and one interception while rushing for 127 yards and three scores. Baylor head coach Matt Rhule is a really good head coach, but he’s got a way to go to build the program back up after former head coach Art Briles basically ruined the program by letting all sorts of nonsense take place under his watch. Baylor is just 2-7 ATS in the last nine games and 1-5 ATS in their last six non-conference games while Duke has gone 5-0 ATS in their last five home games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win and an encouraging 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. The Blue Devils are looking good and have a really good dual-threat star in the making in Daniel Jones. Take Duke to win and cover the spread! Pick: Duke -13.5
