Here’s a Closer Look At The 2016 NFL Week 1 Bet-On And Bet-Against Teams

Thursday, August 11, 2016

Carolina -1.5 at Baltimore

When: 7:30 PM ET
Where: M&T Bank Stadium
I think the Carolina Panthers are a good team to bet against in their opener against a Baltimore team that is looking to bounce back in a big way after going 5-11 in an injury-decimated campaign they had no chance in. The Ravens have an excellent backup in veteran Matt Schaub, making them the team to bet on in this Week 1 preseason opener.

Denver at Chicago -1

When: 8:00 PM ET
Where: Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
The Denver Broncos are the team to bet on in their Week 1 opener against Chicago, mostly because they need to get solid production out of quarterback Mark Sanchez, who I expect to play at least three series minimum. Chicago backup David Fales is mediocre at best, making Chicago the team to bet against!

San Diego at Tennessee -3

When: 8:00 PM ET
Where: Nissan Stadium, Nashville
With a gifted young starter in Marcus Mariota and two excellent backups in Matt Cassel and Zach Mettenberger, the Tennessee Titans are clearly the team to bet on in their Week 1 preseason matchup against a Chargers team that will turn to uninspiring veteran Kellen Clemens once Philip Rivers departs.

Minnesota at Cincinnati -3

When: 7:30 PM ET
Where: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati
Cincinnati has a really good backup in A.J. McCarron, making the Bengals the team to bet on against a Minnesota team that will give the ball to backups Shaun Hill and Taylor Heinicke once starter Teddy Bridgewater leaves.

My Pick: Cincinnati 21 Minnesota 17

Seattle at Kansas City -3

When: 4:30 PM ET
Where: Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City
Former TCU star Trevone Boykin was an absolute monster in college and one of the most unstoppable players in the country. I expect him to shine in this matchup against a Chiefs team that will turn to uninspiring backup Aaron Murray once Alex Smith leaves.

My Pick: Seattle 24 Kansas City 21

Dallas at L.A. Rams -3.5

When: 8:00 PM ET
Where: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles
Veterans Case Keenum and Nick Foles will outplay al of Dallas’ backups, making the Rams the easy pick to bet on in their Week 1 preseason opener against a Dallas Cowboys team that wants to mostly keep Tony Romo upright and healthy – likely by sitting him!

Sunday, August 14, 2016

Houston at San Francisco -3

When: 7:00 PM ET
Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara
The San Francisco 49ers may have been limited to a paltry five wins last season, but they’re the team to bet on in their Week 1 preseason opener as starters-turned-backups (I guess) Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert get the job done!

Washington at Atlanta -3

When: 7:00 PM ET
Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta
With mostly inexperienced taking over for starter Matt Ryan and Washington backup Colt McCoy may not be a starting caliber signal-caller, but I’ll take him every day of the week over Atlanta backup Sean Renfree, making the Skins the team to bet on in this matchup!
