Eagles Are Slight NFL Lines Favorites vs. Seahawks in Week 13

Written by on December 1, 2017

Terrific Sunday night matchup this week as it’s a potential playoff preview with the Eagles facing the Seahawks. Philly has the NFL’s best record and has no worries about reaching the postseason. Seattle, though, is on the outside looking in and needs this win as a rare NFL lines underdog at home. The Eagles are favorites at -6 in Week 13.

Last Meeting

In Week 11 last year in Seattle, the Seahawks beat the Eagles 26-15 – although this Philadelphia team is a million miles better than that one. Russell Wilson threw for 272 yards and a touchdown, and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Doug Baldwin. Wilson became the first QB in franchise history to catch a touchdown, an end-around pass from Baldwin to give the Seahawks a 23-7 lead. C.J. Prosise had a 72-yard touchdown run on Seattle’s fifth offensive play — the longest run by a Seattle player since CenturyLink Field opened in 2002. Carson Wentz was 23 of 45 for 218 yards, two TDs and two picks.

Why Bet On Philadelphia?

The Eagles trashed the Bears 31-3 last week. Wentz threw three more TD passes. Wentz, who leads the NFL with 28 touchdown passes, has the third-most TD passes by a first or second-year quarterback through his team’s first 11 games of a season in NFL history. The Eagles QB is the third quarterback in NFL history to have at least 25 touchdown passes and five or fewer interceptions through his team’s first 11 games, joining Tom Brady (2007, 2015, 2017) and Aaron Rodgers (2011, 2014). Philadelphia owns the best record in the NFL at 10-1 and Wentz is the fourth first or second-year quarterback to start 10-1 or better through his team’s first 11 games of a season in the Super Bowl era.  It marks the fourth time in franchise history the Eagles have started a season 10-1 or better (1949, 1980 and 2004) and the team advanced to the NFL Championship/Super Bowl in each of the previous three instances. In the Super Bowl era, 38 teams have previously started 10-1 and all 38 made the playoffs, 17 reached the Super Bowl (44.7 percent) and eight won the Super Bowl (21.1 percent). Philadelphia has a point differential of 160 through 11 games, the league’s fifth-largest since 2010. The Iggles have won nine consecutive games, including each of its past four by at least 20 points. They look to become the sixth team in NFL history to win five consecutive games all by at least 20 points and the first since the 1999 St. Louis Rams. Philadelphia leads the NFL with 351 points, which are the most through 11 games in franchise history. Philadelphia has won 3 straight games by 28 points for the first time in franchise history. Defensively, Philly allowed 140 total yards to the Bears, their fewest allowed in a single game since 12/1/96 vs. N.Y. Giants (121 yards). The Eagles also held Chicago to just 6 rushing yards, which is their fewest rushing yards allowed in a single game since 1950. Philadelphia has held opponents to 9-or-fewer points in back-to-back games for the first time in a single season since 2004.

Why Bet On Seattle?

Wilson threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a touchdown in the Seahawks’ 24-13 win at San Francisco last week. Seattle’s QB improved to 23-4 (.852) in his career in games following an in-season loss, the best record by a starting quarterback since the 1970 merger (minimum 15 such starts). Wilson is tied for third in the NFL with 3,029 passing yards and became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to pass for at least 3,000 yards in each of his first six seasons. Six points is a very unusual spread for a Seahawks team that has been favored in nearly every home game they’ve played since drafting Wilson in 2012. Including their five home games this season, the Seahawks have been favored in 41 of the 45 home games they’ve played since Wilson’s rookie year. In those 45 home games, the Seahawks have gone 36-9 and have never lost by more than seven points. Are the Seahawks a safe bet in Week 13? The spread marks the first time since 2011 that the Seahawks have been an underdog of six or more points at home. Since Coach Pete Carroll he took over seven years ago, the Seahawks have been an underdog of three or more points a total of 13 times, and in those games, they’ve gone 9-4 straight-up and 11-2 ATS. Seattle was a slight home dog in Week 11 vs. Atlanta and lost 34-31. The Seahawks enter Week 13 with a 7-4 record, one game behind the Los Angeles Rams (8-3) for first place in the NFC West. Seattle has won six of its past eight games. Since 2012, quarterback Wilson’s first season, the Seahawks are an NFL-best 19-5 (.792) in regular-season games played in December/January. In those games, Wilson has completed 450 of 698 passes (64.5 percent) for 5,726 yards with 47 touchdowns and 15 interceptions for a 103.5 passer rating, the highest mark among active quarterbacks over that span.
