There may not be two franchises in the NFL that dislike each other more than the New England Patriots and New York Jets. The AFC East rivals face off on Sunday in New Jersey. The Patriots look to continue their push for the AFC’s top seed, while the Jets are playing out the string and big NFL betting underdogs.

Why Bet on New England?

Because the Pats are the Super Bowl favorites and clearly a better team. The Pats defeated San Francisco 30-17 last Sunday to improve to 8-2 this season. With their eighth win, the Patriots are guaranteed at least a .500 record this season. New England is the fifth team in NFL history – and the first since the 1983-1998 San Francisco 49ers – to have at least 16 consecutive seasons with a .500 or better record.

Tom Brady threw four touchdown passes and no interceptions against the 49ers. Brady has 21 career games with at least four touchdown passes and no interceptions, the most in NFL history. Including the postseason, Brady now has 199 career victories, tied with Hall of Famer Brett Favre for the second-most in NFL history. Brady needs one win to tie Peyton Manning (200) for the most all-time.

Will star tight end Rob Gronkowski play Sunday? He was left behind on the San Francisco trip due to a chest injury, but did practice some in limited fashion this week. Still, reports are that it’s more likely than not that Gronk sits again.

The Patriots lead the series vs. the Jets 59-54- 1 overall. The Patriots are 27-29 all-time on the road against the Jets, including 3-3 at MetLife Stadium. Last season, the two teams split the series with the Patriots taking a 30-23 win at Gillette Stadium on Oct. 25, before losing 26-20 in overtime in the rematch at MetLife Stadium on Dec. 27. Brady has 21 wins against the New York Jets as a starter and can join Brett Favre as the only quarterbacks with at least 22 wins against two opponents with a win against the Jets this week.

Why Bet on NY Jets?

The Jets (3-7) come off their bye week. Their starting QB this week will be Ryan Fitzpatrick. After Fitzpatrick sprained his left knee against the Miami Dolphins in Week 9, Bryce Petty made the first start of his NFL career against the Rams in Week 10 as the Jets only manufactured a touchdown in a 9-6 loss. An emergency backup in defeat, Fitzpatrick benefited from an extra week of healing with the Week 11 bye.

Coach Todd Bowles has repeatedly said that he will play the person who will give his team the best shot at winning. The 33-year- old Fitzpatrick, who has completed 56.4% of his passes this year for 1,983 yards with 8 TDs and 13 INTs, remains atop the depth chart ahead of Petty and rookie Christian Hackenberg.

The Patriots have created just nine turnovers in 10 games this season — tied with the Chicago Bears for 27th in the NFL — and zero since Malcolm Butler picked off a Landry Jones pass in the opening quarter of their Week 7 win over the Steelers. The Jets have turned over the ball 20 times through 10 games and employ the NFL’s leader in interceptions, Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick and Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles each have tossed a league-high 13 picks this season, but Fitzpatrick has done so in just 298 pass attempts to Bortles’ 415.

The Jets’ run game has kicked it up a notch of late and the duo of Matt Forté and Bilal Powell combined for 198 total yards against the Rams. And the Patriots experienced some difficulty with 49ers RB Carlos Hyde last week as he averaged 4.5 yards a carry and amassed 110 total yards in defeat.

In their past three home games against the Patriots, the Jets have captured two contests in overtime and they dropped a one-point decision in between.
