Why Bet on Oakland?

Oakland (10-3) can secure a playoff spot with a win. There are also various scenarios for Oakland to advance to the postseason this week even if the Raiders lose. The Raiders’ six-game winning streak ended last Thursday in a 21-13 loss in Kansas City. Derek Carr was just 17 of 41 for 117 yards passing for Oakland, but it wasn’t all his fault. Seth Roberts dropped just about everything thrown at him, Amari Cooper couldn’t adjust to a long throw for a would-be touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Latavius Murray led the Raiders with 103 yards rushing and a touchdown. Oakland defensive end Khalil Mack ranks second in the AFC with 11 sacks this season and has recorded at least one sack in eight consecutive games. With at least one sack on Sunday at San Diego, Mack would tie for the second-longest streak of consecutive games with a sack since it became an official stat in 1982. Mack would be the first player to record a sack in nine consecutive games in a single season. One of the keys to the Raiders’ 10-3 start to the season has been their ability to force turnovers and win the turnover battle. The team is plus-15 on the year, a figure that ranks first in the league. Oakland is 9-2 in games where they win or are even in the turnover battle this year and have only lost the turnover battle in two games. The Raiders Black have also only committed nine turnovers on the year, tied for the least in the NFL. Cooper (shoulder) remained “limited” in Thursday’s practice. The Raiders are just managing Cooper’s reps. Mired in a slump, Cooper is facing a Chargers team he burned for 6/138/1 in Week 5. The Raiders will look to sweep the season series for the second consecutive year after taking the first meeting in Oakland by a final of 34-31.

Why Bet on San Diego?

The Chargers lost 28-16 in Carolina last week and are playing out the string. Carolina’s defense forced five turnovers by Philip Rivers, recorded five sacks and a safety. Running back Melvin Gordon, who came in averaging 117.5 yards from scrimmage and had scored 12 touchdowns, was carted off with a hip injury after his left leg twisted under a pile while attempting to recover the loose ball. He did not return. The Chargers later lost defensive end Joey Bosa to a neck injury. Chargers coach Mike McCoy said Wednesday that Gordon is highly unlikely to play Sunday against the Raiders. After a disastrous rookie year (641 rushing yards and zero touchdowns), Gordon has rebounded with 997 rushing yards and 419 receiving yards. He ranks fifth in yards from scrimmage, and he’s scored 12 touchdowns. Rookie Kenneth Farrow will start. On Sunday, Farrow rushed for 55 yards on 16 carries and caught six passes for 23 yards. Bosa will play. He holds Pro Football Focus’ fourth-highest grade among 3-4 outside linebackers and is a strong candidate for Defensive Rookie of the Year. Rivers enters Week 15 as the division leader in passing yards (3,589), passing touchdowns (27) and yards per attempt (7.7) and is on pace for his fourth consecutive 4,000-plus season. With the Chargers having three of their top four receivers from 2015 on I.R., second-year WR Tyrell Williams has emerged as San Diego’s leading receiver with 905 yards on 55 catches after totaling just two receptions in 2015. The Chargers and Raiders have met 114 times and sans two ties, Oakland holds a 62-50 edge.
