Week 17 NFL Betting Odds: New York At Washington

Written by on December 29, 2016

The Washington Redskins are desperate to reach the playoffs and need a win in their regular season finale in order for that to happen. The red-hot New York Giants are already guaranteed a spot in the postseason, but likely won’t simply roll over for their NFC East division rivals as the G-Men would like nothing better than to keep the momentum they’ve built up over the last couple of months. Washington and New York will square off on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 PM ET, live from FedEx Field with this affair airing on FOX. Now, let’s find out if the Redskins can cover the NFL betting line as surprising 8-point home favorites.

Week 17 NFL Betting Odds: Giants (10-5) At Redskins (8-6-1)

When: Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 1:00 PM ET Where: FedExField TV: FOX Live Stream: FOX Sports GO NFL Odds: Washington Redskins -8 / Over/Under: 44

New York Giants

The G-Men had their modest two-game winning streak snapped in their 24-19 loss to Philadelphia last weekend but still have plenty of momentum as they get set for the postseason. The New York Giants have lost four of their last six road games and are averaging a uninspiring 19.4 points per game to rank 25th in scoring as veteran quarterback Eli Manning has completed 63.0 percent of his passes for 3,847 yards with 26 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. Defensively, New York is limiting the opposition to just 18.2 points pr game to rank a phenomenal third in points allowed.

Washington Redskins

The Skins have won two of their last three games and come into their regular season finale off a convincing 41-21 blowout win over the lowly Bears last weekend. The Washington Redskins have won four of their last five home games and are averaging a solid 25.7 points per game to rank ninth in scoring as quarterback Kirk Cousins has completed a blistering 67.3 percent of his passes for 4,630 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Defensively, Washington is allowing 24.2 points per game to rank an uninspiring 23rd in points allowed.

Expert Prediction and Pick

I know Kirk Cousins and the Redskins really need this win to secure a playoff berth, while Eli Manning and New York cannot improve on its wild card status and simply wants to get out of this game unscathed, but this is still a division clash and I just don’t think the Giants are going to roll over no matter how long their starters play, if at all. New York has gone 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record. Simply put, I say take the G-Men plus the points.

Pick: New York +8 Points
