Top NFL Week 2 Betting Games

Another very good schedule of games in Week 2 of the NFL season, but I believe two stand out: a playoff rematch in Houston with the Chiefs in town as well as a replay of an NFC North winner-take- all game from last year. Here’s a look at those two games and their NFL lines.

Top NFL Week 2 Betting Games

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings (+2.5, 45)

This is the first regular-season game in Minnesota’s new U.S. Bank Stadium so the Vikings will be even more amped up than usual against the rival Packers. These clubs faced off in Week 17 last year with the division title on the line and Minnesota won in an upset, 20-13. Adrian Peterson ran for a touchdown, cornerback Captain Munnerlyn returned a fumble 55 yards for a score and the Vikings claimed their first division title since 2009. The Vikings knocked away a desperation pass in the end zone from Aaron Rodgers on fourth down as time expired. Minnesota’s QB that day was Teddy Bridgewater, but he’s out for this season. Veteran journeyman Shaun Hill started Week 1, a 25-16 win at Tennessee. The Vikings won without scoring an offensive touchdown. Eric Kendricks returned an interception 77 yards for a touchdown late in the third quarter and Danielle Hunter scored a 24-yard TD off a fumble return. The Vikings forced three turnovers in the span of just under seven minutes and also had two sacks. Tennessee focused on stopping Peterson, who had 1,485 yards rushing last season, and the Titans did just that. Peterson had 31 yards on 19 carries. I don’t believe that Hill will start this Sunday night game but that it will be newly-acquired Sam Bradford. Coach Mike Zimmer says he won’t make an announcement before the game. Nor should he. Hill had a solid game vs. the Titans, completing 10 of his 17 passes that traveled at least 10 yards downfield, but Bradford has the stronger arm and might be more effective at making the Packers pay for loading up to Peterson. Green Bay won 27-23 in Week 1 at Jacksonville. Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score. Rodgers completed 20 of 34 passes for 199 yards, with TD passes to Jordy Nelson and Davante Adams. He was sacked once for no yards and didn’t turn it over. Nelson played his first game since tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the 2015 preseason. Packers CB Sam Shields suffered a concussion in the game and is questionable for this one. I like the Vikings here if Bradford’s the starter.

Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans (-2, 43.5)

You know that the Texans want payback here. They not only lost Week 1 at home to Kansas City last year but also 30-0 there in the wild-card game as the Chiefs dominated defensively by forcing five turnovers. But that was when Houston had Brian Hoyer as its QB. Now the Texans have Brock Osweiler. In Week 1, he led a 23-14 home win over Chicago. Osweiler threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns. He completed passes to eight different receivers, led by rookie first-round pick Will Fuller, who became the first player in franchise history to have 100 yards receiving in a debut with 107 and a touchdown. Lamar Miller had 106 yards rushing in his first game with the Texans. However, Houston lost linebacker Brian Cushing to a sprained MCL. Cushing suffered the injury early in the first quarter; he played just nine defensive snaps on Sunday. He’s going to miss at least a few weeks. Without Cushing, the Texans will lean on inside linebackers Benardrick McKinney and Max Bullough. McKinney, who played in 98 percent of the Texans’ defensive snaps on Sunday, registered five combined tackles and two quarterback hits against the Bears. Kansas City had the biggest comeback win in Week 1, beating San Diego 33-27 in overtime. Alex Smith threw for 363 yards and two touchdowns to rally his team from a three-touchdown hole, then scored on third-and- goal on the first possession of overtime. The Chiefs trailed 24-3 in the second half. Kansas City extended its regular-season winning streak to 11 games with the win. The Chiefs are the first team in NFL history to extend a winning streak of at least 10 games with a 21+ point comeback victory. Go Houston on NFL lines here.
