2019 NFL Week 11 ATS Betting Picks.

2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 Sure Winners

Written by on August 20, 2018

If it’s the third week of the NFL preseason, that means we’re going to see some ‘real’ action with every team in the league, generally playing their No. 1s for at least a half. With that thought in mind – and the league’s best players – taking the field this coming weekend, let’s find out where the best pro-football betting value can be found. Here is a look at my top three ‘sure winners’ for the 2018 NFL Preseason Week 3.

2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 Sure Winners

Philadelphia Eagles (0-2) at Cleveland Browns (1-1)

  • NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds: Cleveland Browns -1.5 (Total 42.5)
The Eagles fell to 0-2 in the preseason by losing to New England 37-20 on Thursday while losing backup quarterback Nick Foles in the process. The good news, however, is that Foles is already back on the field after suffering a minor strain, not to mention the fact that the Birds found out that hey, Nate Sudfeld is pretty damned good. The third-year signal-caller had an encouraging outing by going 22 of 39 for 312 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. The Browns ended up on the wrong side of a narrow 19-17 home loss against Buffalo in Week 2 following their uplifting 20-10 Week 1 win against the Giants. Quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield combined to go 11 of 20 for 97 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions, while the rushing attack led the way. Veteran Carlos Hyde rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown on nine carries while rookie Nick Chubb added 53 rushing yards and a touchdown on 11 rushes. The Eagles might be 0-2 heading into Week 3, but they’ve still got a great backup quarterback in Nick Foles and now, some desire to play well and get at least one confidence-boosting win. You had best believe that Philly’s starters are going to want to play well in what will be the most action they’ll see this preseason. I know Cleveland is completely revamped and that they’ve looked more than competent in splitting their first two preseason games. However, Cleveland has not scored more than the 20 points they put on the board in their opener, so, even though they’re remodeled, they’re also not exactly lighting up the scoreboard. I like Philly to get a good performance from Nick Foles and third-stringer Nate Sudfeld who clearly belongs on some NFL roster. Pick: Philadelphia Eagles 24 – Cleveland Browns 23

Seattle Seahawks (0-2) at Minnesota Vikings (1-1)

  • NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds: Minnesota Vikings -3.5 (Total 41)
Seattle fell to 0-2 on the preseason by losing to the L.A. Chargers 24-14 on Saturday despite getting an extended appearance from Russell Wilson as he went 13 for 21 for 193 yards. Third-stringer Alex McGough passed for 97 yards and one touchdown in the loss. Minnesota fell to 1-1 on the preseason by losing to Jacksonville 14-10 in Week 2 as new starting quarterback Kirk Cousins went a modest 3 for 8 in limited action and backups Kyle Sloter and Trevor Siemian combined to go 15 for 25 for 128 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. Let me start by saying that Minnesota has the best defense in all of football and just missed ranking first across the board in 2017. In addition to that, I’m expecting the Vikings to be more potent offensively in 2018 with quarterback Kirk Cousins replacing Case Keenum and dual-threat running back Dalvin Cook back on the field after a tantalizing rookie debut that was cut short by injury. Seattle still has a superstar of the highest caliber in quarterback Russell Wilson and they’ve also got some nice talent at other positions. However, the Seahawks are now a team that I believe will need a bit of time to forge their new identity while Minnesota is set in the knowledge of who they are and how they want to play this coming season. The Vikings come in as the 2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 Betting favorites against the Seahawks. I like the Vikings to get the big preseason win and send a message to all of their NFC counterparts that they’re going to be very for real this coming season. Pick: Seattle Seahawks 23 – Minnesota Vikings 27

Detroit (0-2) at Tampa Bay (2-0)

  • NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3 (Total 45)
Detroit fell to an uninspiring 0-2 this preseason by getting smacked around by the Giants in their 30-17 Week 2 loss. Matt Stafford was just 2 for 5 for 51 yards and was under pressure every time he dropped back to pass. Backup Jake Rudock had a good game by going 23 of 30 for 171 yards with one touchdown. Still, first-time head coach Matt Patricia wasn’t happy afterward. Tampa Bay improved to 2-0 in the preseason by overpowering Tennessee en route to a commanding 30-14 win. Jameis Winston threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns in just one quarter before sitting. The bad news is that veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick was pedestrian in going 5 of 13 for 46 yards. I’m going to advise you to back the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to hold it down at home in this Week 3 matchup of playoff hopefuls. The Buccaneers will play Jameis Winston at least a half in this one and I think the former Florida State star will continue to shine as he has throughout this preseason. This game and some spot duty in Week 4 will be Winston’s last action since he has to sit out the first three games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Pick: Detroit Lions 24 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers 28
