2018 NFL Season Biggest AFC Rivalry Games

Written by on August 1, 2018

The AFC has been owned by the New England Patriots over the past decade or so. Sure, there have been some seasons when they didn’t win it, but for the most part, they have been the team to beat. There is a feeling that the end of their reign is coming, but will the 2018 NFL Season when it happens? We are going to need to wait for an answer to that one, although there certainly are a few teams in the conference who are ready to plant their flag at the top of the AFC standings. There are a bunch of big conference games on the 2018 NFL schedule, so let’s take a look at some of those bigger match-ups.

2018 NFL Season Biggest AFC Rivalry Games

New England Patriots vs Jacksonville Jaguars – Week 2

We don’t need to wait very long to get one of the most anticipated games in the AFC calendar. These two teams made it all the way to the Conference Championship Game last season, with the upstart Jags coming within one defensive play of making the Super Bowl. There are still some question marks at the QB position with Jacksonville, although Blake Bortles silenced some of his harshest critics in 2017. The Jaguars will be looking for some serious revenge here but will be up against a Patriots team that just always seems to find a way to win.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos – Week 4

Three of the four teams in the AFC West went through some radical changes in the offseason, making this division a very tough one to handicap. The Chiefs have been consistently good in the regular season during the Andy Reid era, but they are heading in a different direction this season with an unproven QB under center. By the time Week 4 rolls around, we should have a pretty good idea of what Patrick Mahomes is all about. He will get another tough test this week when he heads to Mile High to face a Denver team that is not getting a lot of love, but who are always tough to beat at home.

Tennessee Titans vs Houston Texans – Week 12

The AFC South was a battle to the finish last season and will likely be even better this year if the Houston Texans can stay healthy. There is a very good chance that we could see 3 teams come out of this division, which is why getting on top here is so important, as it could mean skipping the Wildcard weekend. Titans vs Texas is going to be wild in the 2018 NFL Season. The Texans should be much improved with Deshaun Watson back under center, while the Titans will be looking to improve on their big playoff win last season in the Wild Card. This one could go a long way towards deciding the division.

New England Patriots vs Pittsburgh Steelers – Week 15

Make no mistake about it, this is the game that every fan of the AFC has circled on their calendar. The catch rule was changed at the end of last season, with the controversy of the meeting between these two have a lot to do with that change. Jesse James looked to have scored the winning TD late against the Patriots last season, only to see it called back. We all thought they would meet again in the playoffs, but the Steelers failed to hold up their end of the bargain. Is this the year when the Steelers finally see off their arch-rivals?
