NFL Week 16 Parlay Picks

NFL Week 16 Parlay Picks

Written by on December 19, 2018

The Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions will all be looking to win and cash in at home in their respective Week 16 matchups this coming weekend. The Bolts are looking to lock down first place in the AFC playoffs, Cleveland is hoping to give their faint playoff hopes a boost and Detroit…well, they’d like nothing better than to play spoiler against a division rival.

Let’s find out what’s going to take place when all three teams take to the field this weekend.

NFL Week 16 Parlay Picks

Baltimore Ravens (8-6) at Los Angeles Chargers (11-3)

The Ravens have been playing some fantastic football ever since rookie Lamar Jackson took over for a then, injured Joe Flacco five weeks ago. Baltimore won for the fourth time in their last five games by getting past Tampa Bay 20-12 last weekend as an 8-point favorite. Jackson passed for 131 yards and one touchdown while rushing for an additional 95 yards. Running back Gus Edwards rushed for 104 yards and one score and Baltimore’s defense held Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston without a TD pass while picking him off once. Baltimore averages 24.4 points per game () while limiting the opposition to just 18.1 points per game to rank first in points allowed.

The Chargers have won four consecutive games and and a scorching 10 of their last 11 games overall. The Bolts picked up a stunning  29-28 comeback win over Kansas City on Thursday as veteran quarterback Philip Rivers passed for 313 yards with two touchdowns and two picks while running back Justin Jackson rushed for 58 yards and one score. The Chargers average 28.2 points per game to rank a stellar fourth in scoring while limiting the opposition to 21.3 points per contest defensively to rank ninth in points allowed.

Simply put, I like Baltimore to cover a point spread that looks a few points too high. The Ravens are 18-7-4 ATS in their last 29 road games against a team with a winning record and 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 road games. On the flip side of the coin, the Chargers have gone an uninspiring 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 following an ATS win. With the underdog and road team in this rivalry going an identical 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, I like Baltimore in this one.

NFL Week 16 Pick: LA Chargers 24 Ravens 21

Cincinnati Bengals (6-8) at Cleveland Browns (6-7-1)

  • Where: FirstEnergy Stadium
  • TV: CBS
  • NFL Week 16 Odds: Cleveland -7 / Total: 45

Cincinnati kept their nearly faint playoff hopes alive by pounding Oakland 30-16 last weekend as a 3-point home favorite. Backup quarterback Jeff Driskell passed for 130 yards with one touchdown and one interception while Joe Mixon rushed for 129 yards with two touchdowns. Cincinnati’s defense held Oakland quarterback Derek Carr to one touchdown pass in the win. Cincinnati averages 24.1 points per game (14th) while allowing 29.5 points per contest defensively (31st).

Cleveland has gotten hot at just the right time, having won four of their last five games including their shocking 17-16 win over Denver last weekend as a 1-point road dog. Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield passed for 188 yards with two touchdown tosses and one pick while Cleveland’s defense harassed Case Keenum into a miserable two-interception performance. Cleveland averages 22.1 points per game (19th) while allowing 24.9 points per contest defensively (22nd).

To get right to the point, I like Cincinnati to cover the spread with room to spare. Yes, Cleveland is playing its best football of the season under interim head coach Gregg Williams and they look far better than they ever did under former head coach Hue Jackson. The Bengals are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games against their AFC counterparts and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. Cleveland has gone 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games, but they’re also just 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games against their AFC North division rivals. I like the Bengals to win and cover.NFL Week 16 Pick: Cincinnati 23 Cleveland 21

Minnesota Vikings (7-6) at Detroit Lions (5-9)

The Vikings halted their two-game losing streak and kept their playoff hopes alive all at the same time by smacking Miami senseless 41-14 last weekend to easily cover the spread as a 7.5-point home favorite. Running back Dalvin Cook rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns and Kirk Cousins passed for 215 yards with two TD tosses and one pick. Minnesota’s defense kept the Dolphins off the scoreboard in the first and final quarters and limited quarterback Ryan Tannehill to 108 passing yards. The Vikings are averaging a modest 23.1 points per game (17th) while allowing 22.0 per contest defensively (12th).

Detroit looked most uninterested in their uninspiring 14-13 loss to lowly Buffalo last weekend. Quarterback Matthew Stafford passed for 208 yards with one touchdown and one interception, but the Lions were shut out in the second half and saw their 13-7 lead entering the fourth quarter disappear on Josh Allen’s 42-yard TD strike early in the fourth quarter. Detroit averages an uninspiring 20.3 points per game (25th) while allowing 23.8 points per contest defensively (19th).

The Lions have been a complete mess on offense this season and not much better defensively. Conversely, Minnesota still has a lot to play for heading into this contest. More importantly, the Vikings looked much improved on offense after firing former offensive coordinator John  DeFilippo and replacing him with quarterbacks coach Kevin Stefanski.

Minnesota has gone 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game and 13-5-1 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a losing record. Conversely, the Lions are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against their NFC counterparts and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game. The Vikings are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road dates against the Lions. This one looks like a lock to me!
